well, here is documentary "The singing revolution" trailer. movie itself was screened in 2007 and it talks about Estonia in 20th century, especially during events in late 80-s, that resulted regaining independence.

The history channel series "Barbarians" did a very nice and comprehensive job . One of the better ones and anybody interested in the late Roman Empire should watch as well.

I found this one , I think it is about East Romans. I'm not really sure what time period it is supposed to depict. It's a Romanian movie and I don't speak Romanian. Perhaps someone can fill in the blanks? Who ? Where ? When? Historical? Uniforms correct?

It's got awesome scenes of an army on the move , for example 48:47 up to 53:20 are pretty stunning , and 1:05 is a sight to behold! That 's a lot of actors!
Mad props for those stuntmen for their horsemanship and horsemanfalling skills.

Actually the english version of the movie is called "The glory of the Khan"...It's about a roman invasion bulgaria during the first years of the existence of the medieval bulgarian kingdom.

I think the Bulgarian army sent about 100,000 soldiers as "actors" for the roman army.

More like 50 000, as far as I know. In any case - one of the good sides of a communist regime.
Anyway, I had recently posted those three movies ("Han Asparuh" is originally a trilogy, while the Warner Bros version ("681 - Glory of the khan") is horribly shortened, consisting almost only of the third movie) in another thread, but I'll repost them here as well:

In addition, there's this movie about Tsar Kaloyan (1197-1207) from the 60s:

All of them have English subtitles (press CC if they don't load). Of course, it should be noted they're just movies, old ones at that, and thus have a number of historical inaccuracies, bigger or smaller. The very name of the first Asparuh movie, f.e. - Phanagoria, considered to be the Bulgar capital at the time, although the historical sources simply mention that Bulgaria starts after Phanagoria, in which Jews live.

Edit: Actually, for quicker viewing of the battle scenes from Han Asparuh, you can also use my old playlist here - it has English "subtitles" (formed as annotations, since there wasn't a subtitles option in YT then) as well.

This is good series on American history. It's not as comprehensive as an AP textbook, but it's well-presented, informative, and sometimes includes round table discussions. Transcripts of the videos are also available.

This is an interesting thread. I have to wonder if there is an easier way to do this.... the forum just seem like a good format. Perhaps a list of all the current videos with links to them would be better.


I got kick out of the statement above,... As an AP teacher, I would never consider an AP textbook "comprehensive."
