    Fall of Great Empires

2,500 years ago Persia was a great empire; regarded as the forerunner of the Roman Empire. However in spite of its size & strength it had an adversary that would seal its doom. Persia's nemesis was a smaller empire - Macedon; ruled by Alexander The Great
    Storm Over Persia.

Ancient Carthage was home to Hannibal; one of the greatest generals in history. He crushed the Roman legions like a force of nature at the battle of Cannae. However, his greatest triumph was also the beginning of the end for the once mighty city state.
    The Fall of Carthage.

The Roman Empire was born almost 3000 years ago in central Italy. 800 years after its founding it encompassed the entire known world & lasted just over 1000 years. However, the empire didn't so much fall, but slowly evolved into a new European culture.

The crusades documentary is very worthy of a look. Terry Jones from Monty Python is the host and his comments are extremely funny. The episodes are long, educational and very entertaining. They go a lot more in to the depth than these shows usually do. It must also be the first pre-napoleonic-age documentary I have ever seen, that is not cheesy. Albeit, it is a bit dismissive of the crusaders themselves.

Provided you know a little of the crusades from before, this is very good watching. If you know nothing at all you will learn a lot, but perhaps get a very narrow view of the crusaders.

    Thanks for posting.

Exellent thread, should be stickied. I don't know if anyone can get the BBC "World at War", series up? It's a bit dated now, (1970's) but has a lot of interviews from some of the major faces on both sides, most of whom are dead now.
