Thread: Cvria Ivlia, Consulate of Ancus/Lepidus

Noble Ancus a marvelous series of victories, the Res Public is very grateful to your dispatching of several of the leading warlords of Gaul, and restoring noble Horatius Malleolus' honour and valour in the field.

I fully support the motion to not only capture Aventicum but to enslave/slaughter its populace!!!

No senators, you must take this into consideration before you reject this idea - however bloodthirsty it may seem! The people of this town are guerilla fighters, they would hinder the advance of the Res Publica through dishonourable and cowardly hamstringing our legions! I fwe want to find the eage, will we have to encircle the town completely and massacre all left inside it, every man woman and child! Lest the Eagle be lost in the confusion of the aftermath of a siege!

I first salute Ancus on a great campaign, which is still in it's infancy. I also feel that the debate of punishment should now become the main concern of this senate. I feel that enslaving this animals would be most detrimental to the Republic. Rome would be flooded with slaves and would cause unemployment as the greedy and more disgracful land-owners choose Gauls over Romans. Enslavement is not in the peoples interests!

After I have took Aventicum, should I continue my campaign against the Gauls? Should I push towards Alesia? What would the senate have me do?

Those Gauls WILL pay...anyway, congratulations on your victories in this campaign Consul Ancus! Your legions seem to be understrength, do you need any reinforcements? If you do, I'm sure we could all vote on sending another legion to help.

As for awarding Consul Malleolus, I whole-heartily agree. He died defending Rome and it's people, and should be awarded.

I'm also going to start another motion along with this one:

Motion to sack Aventicum (destroy all the buildings in it):

I must unfortunately cast the ballot as X, my legions have fought hard and I will not have any one of them dyeing trying to keep control of some barbarian sty.

I disagree in destroying the buildings;what if they have the infrastructure available to rebuild our legions? Will we wait for 5-10 years until we rebuild all infrastructure?I will agree though in burning down their temples and any entertainment building...

Aventicum: XXXXXX (sanada and scipio both put 3Xs)

Sacking of Aventicum: 1 Yea - 2 Nay

Let us merely destroy their entertainment buildings. if their religious buildings can be made into a Roman temple, let it be done. If not, let us destroy it and begin the conversion of these barbarians to the only true faith, the worship of Jupiter and his Pantheon.

After much rumor as to why the 3rd and 4th Italica have been merged with the 1st Decius Legio, and then marched away from Aventicum, Ancus emerges in Rome, he is unshaven and weary.

"Senators, I have news, news of a battle. This battle forced me to withdraw the three Legions...do not worry, new Legions have been levied in Massilia as well as Patavium they have been sent to the area, the 2nd Italica is due to resume active duty within the next year.
The 3rd and 4th have been merged with the 1st Decius, so no extra Legions have been formed.
Details will follow once I have recovered."

"To break Nero and the 2nd Italica out of the Alps, we had to move south Cassius Pompilius was acting as the rear defense. One night a heavy snow fell, as Romans we were not used to this terrain. Slowed down considerably the Gauls caught up with Cassius, out numbered we came to his aid.
    The battle was swift.

After Nero had left the area, me, Pompilius and Cassius the Lewd moved back towards Aventicum, a decision I gravely regret, the forest around the town moved, we were attacked, outnumbered all three legions fell back.
Again Cassius Pompilius commanded the rear defense, and again the Gauls caught us.

I do not have a name for this battle - it was a large battle, and it took place on grassy plains, near the village of Embrun.
You could call it the battle of Embrun.

I must go now, for that is all I can say for today"

I ask you. What is best in life? I'll answer you. Crush your enemies, See them driven before you and hear the lamentations of the women!

But it seem our legions need reinforcements, are there any? I hope so.

Let us regain our eagle, punish our enemies and then withdraw to better positions.

The senior Consul has won one battle. Give him a chance to earn that name.

But still, a great and wonderful victory!

    Motion A:

    Aventicum: XXXXXXXXO
I have never seen Romans so bloodthirsty. We will make 5 enemies for every Gaul killed in the extermination of Aventicum. How can you condemn these people to torture and death? I, for one, will not be carried away with this mob mentality.

Hah! How many peoples do you assume there to be?? Do you really propose that a great many thousands of these peoples will be so eager to help those dirty Gauls!

You go on to declare you have never seen Romans so bloodthirsty, however have you not forgotten how Rome was birthed! We overthrew our oppressors!!!

Now please noble consul, do not stand in the way of martial justice, those people have earned their place on the far bank of the river Styx when there tribe dared to steal our eagle! If they are so deserving of Roman forgiveness would they not have surrendered the eagle and begged for peace!

    Valete gentlemen.

May the gods bless your armies in this harsh winter. Lay these gauls to waste before you and command our sons with pride. But what should happen after victory? I think we should launch a campaign to take Alesia and destroy all infastructure here, the heart of their kingdom.
