Default Cvria Ivlia, Consulate of Ancus/Lepidus

Consul Lepidus enters the Curia and sits in his Curile chair.

"Senators, we have much to do. The sitting Consul has been slain in battle. We must decide if we should pursue the eagle he lost, or return to building the republic."

"Also, there is the matter of the amendment to be passed. We will need to have more discussion on that."

"I will make my appointments shortly. Roma Victor."

The Consul stops speaking, and awaits a response.

"I await the orders of the Senate, please have every faith in my military, logistical and tactical ability.

I would also like to thank the Senate for electing me, and the noble Libo, for his competition."

The new Consul sits down, smiling to the men of Rome he raises a hand in thanks.

An Eagle of Rome can not be lost, while it is gone all our fortune will be negative. We must have the eagle.

Senator Lvcivs Valerivs Scipio angrily speaks:

Consul Malleolus' death shall be avenged! I say that we take a legion and sack Aventicum completely. The lost eagle should be propped up on the tallest building while the Gauls are exterminated.

We should also destroy every building in the city; that way the survivors of the massacre won't have any place to work and no place to go to enjoy themselves.

But shouldn't we punish these Gauls for what they've done? We've lost a legion, our Senior Consul, and a legionary eagle.

I propose that before we agree on whether or not to punish the Gauls, we should take Aventicum and the eagle.

We should not allow the loss of an Eagle. The people will not have it! We should strike at these inbred gauls and reclaim the Eagle in the name of our former Consul Malleolus. In his honour we should reclaim Rome's honour!

Marcus Licinius Julius enters the Curia disgraced at the mention of the Previous senior Consul as he had forced him to come into Rome while he was major arrangements at my Villa.

The eagle must Be retrieved and i suggest the the new Consul should take at least 3 Legions with him to retrieve it and two more in reserve to block the escape routes of the Barbarian Hordes.

    Junior Consul Appointments

A brief note before I begin: I have no idea whats going on with the Princeps Senatus, so I'm just going to appoint two.

For the office of Censor, I choose Senator Gnaeus Aurelius Libo (Andronicus).

For the first office of Princeps Senatus, I choose Former Consul Marcus Iunius Brutus Major (Gaius Gracchus).

For the second office of Princeps Senatus, I choose Former Consul Gaius Antonius Constantinus (littlejim13)

I hope choosing candidates from all parties will help to bring us together.

On another note, tomorrow is the day we choose who is worthy of a Corona Civica. I would put forward, for the tribune's consideration, the late Consul for this award. The qualifications are anyone who makes a great contribution to Rome, and to Rome he gave his life. He is far more worthy than I, Brutus, or any other consul or senator in the past five years. Thank you.

Senators! News from the front has arrived!

A great battle has been fought and won! One that showed exceptional courage from the 2nd Italica Legio. Whilst positioning my Legion and Nero's Legion just north of Aventicum, we were attacked by Caratawc and a small detachment of Gauls.

However, Caratawc had turned his army round, away from the 2nd Italica Legio, and straight for my flank, which was exposed due to the Gaelic reinforcements charging me. You can see the dilemma faced by the 2nd Italica, Nero's forces were enthusiastic and battle hardened, but they were heavily outnumbered.

If Nero did not advance forward and intercept Caratawc before my Legion could swing round to meet him, then the battle would be lost, he and his legion however could withdraw quickly, been so isolated from the fighting.

Nero did something brave that day, he sounded the march forward and did not stop until he reached the barbarian horde.

The fighting was brutal and unforgiving, but it worked, Caratawc did not advance to meet me as he had hoped.

When a runner told me of the news, I immediately committed my Legion to the fight, with the Gaelic detachment slaughtered the 1st Decius reared around and now charged Caratawc. He was now flanked, a victim of his own mischief, and his forces were completely destroyed.

One Hasatai told me that he saw Caratawc slain with his own eyes, apparently the foolish Gaul was trying to hack is way through a Maniple of Tiarii to get to me.

I would like to inform the Senate that the 2nd Italica Legio, commanded by Nero Fronto, will be taking its leave from active service, It will stay near Capua for two years, were the legion will recruit new soldiers to fill the gaps left by the campaign, refit and re-equip, and of course allow the brave soldiers of Rome will be able to see their loved ones again.

    Roma Vitor.

Marcvs Jvnivs Brvtvs raises, applavding the Senior Consvl:

What splendid victories you have achieved for the Glory of Rome! How more fitting that in this day of awards given to the most bright of our members we give to our Senior Consul the name Metellvs to celebrate his military glory against the Gauls!
Also I agree with Lepidvs to his plead, that we give the departed Senior Consvl,Micaelis Horativs Malleolvs the Corona Civica for his service to the Res Publica! He conquered three enemy cities and won many battles for the sake of Rome; Let us award this determination and military prowess!
