If you can get through the start pages and pick a faction, then in the past it's been a bad install, a bad patch or someone trying to get around the copy protection.

Before we think the last option, are talking about Medieval2 or Kingdoms and which version and if Kingdoms which campaign and in all the above which faction?

Medieval2 Limited Edition. Tried running it 1.00, 1.02 and 1.03. The factions I've chosen so far were the British, French and Holy Roman.

I am guessing it is the Ragusa error as it is starting to look for map file (water_surface.tga) - Did you delete the map.rwm file in the \base folder?

I don't think of that one because I never had it happen to me even in 1.0.

I just deleted map.rwm but still crash.

Now you certainly will have the Ragusa problem. The error is courtesy of the guys at CA: they made a small change AFTER they generated the map.rwm for the campaign. To solve it, you have to move the pixel (port) in the Ragusa region one to the right and one down (map_regions).

I think I am just going to uninstall and toss it. I thank you, irishron and gigantus, for your time and effort but sadly I don't have the patience for this. I still tend to believe that when a company releases a game, it should work.

i just go the game like 2hours ago and i installed it, and i got that error b4 i can play the game and so i read this forum and:
1) reinstalled it again
2) reboot pc
3) the game is a LEGAL copy
4) no mods

What version of the game as seperate dvd or Gold or download? Have you patched it any?
What drive do you have the game installed on? External drives have been known to cause problems.
I see you have Nero installed. It and Securom, copy protection for Medieval2 and Kingdoms, do not get along. You may need to contact www.securom.com on this.

its a 2 disk box set of the game bought at a store, and is not the gold.
no i have not installed any patches.
the game is not installed on an external HD but its is not installed on the local disk.
about nero, should i uninstall it, i dont really need it.

You should at leats be able to start a campaign even unpatched.
The drive should not matter in this case.
Concerning Nero, you can uninstall it and run a registry cleaner to get rid of the leftovers or you can contact Securom about a medieval2.exe that will let you have both.
The most other things I have encountered causing this are out of date software. Your Nvidia drivers are the same as mine. Have you run Microsoft Update lately and install the optional software they keep putting there? What version of .Net framework and Windos Media Player do you have installed?

framework version is v3.5
Windows Media Player 11 is installed
and i just ran the auto update.

just did that and it refuses to even load on the cd rom drive. at first i thought it was the cd rom drive,
so i put in fable the lost chapters and it worked.
so i think u know what that means

it was made 2006 and its been sitting down in that store for 3 years, and my gf said it was a bit dusty when she bought it. soooo yea time to get on like a animal in the store lol. thx for the help. peace boss man.
