I am preparing a report that will cover such questions, my friend.
But before the report can be finished I most push for a new motion. There has been much talk about the flanking move towards the coastal settlements of Gaul, but if this is to be a good and detailed report I must know the forces in and around these settlements.

Grant the Consul a spy to determine the forces present in and around the coastal settlements of Gaul.

With the flanking:

The reason to conquer Narbo and Massila is because

(A) It will distract the main Gaulish force, making it easier to conquer Cisalpine Gaul

(b) It gives us more trade, and the Gauls less.

(c) If we drive out the Gauls, it will keep them weakened so that they will eventually be crushed by other tribes.

I have good reason to believe a large Gaulish push is being prepared. And I mean large.

NO, taking the coastal cities of Gaul will be a big mistake. We will overextend ourselves over the alps, and have to rely on our navy to bring supplies and reinforcements during winter etc. We have no reason to conquer southern Gaul except to open up a front for a push into northern Gaul, and there is ZERO reason for that.

And please senator, share with us your "good reason to believe that a large Gaulish push is being prepared." I will not abide such fear mongering.

Well, the Gauls are attacking. With a spy whom was posted there, I saw a large Gaulish force moving in from the Italian side of the Alps. I can safely assume there is a Gaulish force on the other side.

Also I would like to make a compromise for the Motion currently being voted on, the motion of altering Section 1, Part 1 of The Legion Recruitment Reform Act. Seeing already superior resistance I would like to take Senator Lepidus' proposal of two provinces instead of three provinces per. Legion. This would allow me to recruit two new legions to battle the Gauls.

New Motion
To alter the number of provinces per Legion from 3 to 2 in Section 1, Part 1 of The Legion Recruitment Reform Act.
To allow Consul Malleolus recruitment of two new legions.

Also I have inspected and read the latest military reports on the state of our soldier’s equipment. I must say that I find the lack armor dissatisfying. Our soldiers can only do so much with a shield until it breaks and opens him up for a strike. To insure minimum casualties, denariis spend on new replacements and to preserve the sacred Roman family life, I put out a motion that if passed will allow me to construct Smiths and Armories in Roman cities.
Furthermore I would like to see Roman Heavy Cavalry in the field. The Gauls already have many hundreds of horses on the field that pose a great threat to our men. I talked to a soldier who served in the Northern Legions as a Triarii. He can recall how many equites and triarii it required repulse a gallic heavy cavalry charge. If we can counter them before they even hit our lines we will have saved many lives.

May I please state that my plan NEVER, had a need to capture southern Gaul, but instead prevent reinforcement while a push to take Cisalpine Gaul. I can however see how it could be construed that way because I foolishly used the word invade.

This plan is only for the holding up of reinforcements from the Gallic heartland. This is a co-ordianted attack to occupy the Gauls away from Italia temporarily while our men take out the men left behind. So please, do not take this as a plan of Gallic conquest, but a tactical plan to take CISALPINE GAUL. I personally feel this plan to be more beneficial than sending all our power in protracted conflict against a easily reinforced foe.
