Federalist or anti Federalist? Ok which would you be?

The Federalist Papers

Mostly the work of Alexander Hamilton and James Madison

Welcome to our Federalist Papers e-text. The Federalist Papers were written and published during the years 1787 and 1788 in several New York State newspapers to persuade New York voters to ratify the proposed constitution.

The Federalist PapersIn total, the Federalist Papers consist of 85 essays outlining how this new government would operate and why this type of government was the best choice for the United States of America. All of the essays were signed "PUBLIUS" and the actual authors of some are under dispute, but the general consensus is that Alexander Hamilton wrote 52, James Madison wrote 28, and John Jay contributed the remaining five.

The Federalist Papers remain today as an excellent reference for anyone who wants to understand the U.S. Constitution.

Anti-Federalist Papers

Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry are two examples of anti Federalists although the terms are misleading. In truth the Jeffersonians wanted a Federal government and the Federalists wanted a National government. The Federalist won at first but were later seen as snobs and thrown out around 1816 and the Jeffersonians then took over.

It was because of the anti federalists that the bill of rights was added to the constitution. They feared that the government would use the constitution to seize too much power. Now which party do you think was right?

Anti-Federalist, generally. I support the existance of a Federal Government with the power to protect the country, regulate trade and deal with foreign affairs. However, the State is the more important body.

The Articles of Confederation were to weak, however. The Constitution as we got it is perfect (as possible).

Exactly and the Idea of the constitution was to make it a Federation instead of a confederation. Not a National Government. There is a difference.

And while we are on the topic of federalism, I've been looking at the differences between dual and cooperative federalism.
Cooperative federalism is what we have right now. Dual federalism is what we should (and used to) have.

Riiight.

You do realize you're contradicting yourself with that statement correct?

Riiight.

When the 2nd congress met it was not to write the Constitution but to fix the articles of confederation. They were supposed to be forming a Federal government. Again Hamilton and his group took the name Federalist even though thats not what they were. They were Nationalist. They wanted a national government. Jefferson was a true Federalist. Hamilton and his side lied and said this was not a consolidated government. If the people had thought so they never would have allowed it to be ratified.

I would rather worry about your interpretation after we rescue Constitution from its present condition.

We read it using historical perspective . Something you ought to learn. You go by court opinions. Like you dont read it from your perspective. Here we are giving you the actual thoughts of the founders. Debate them.

You are obviously a Federalist. In other words a royalist like Hamilton.

Really Rush I go by court opinions and yet who here went by court opinions in a rather futile attempt to say an amendment was uncostitutional?

Also how do you know that the founders did not make it so that the goverment could never have things like welfare or the SS. Are you really reading it from a historicle perspective or from your own veiw?

Did you ever read their writings and opinions? Benjamin Franklin outright condemned socialism.
