if they made a total war game that was set around the modern age (like pre-WWI to 21st century) that'd be cool

i dont think guns etc work in a tw format, i still dont know if empires will work. if it works in empires i will support it
think about it. middle ages is great, but variety is necessity. and it would be fun to send machine gun wielding infintary, tanks, and gun ships in large numbers to take new territory. itd be a chance for the jews to , in a sense, get some payback, and for the germans to make sure WW2 goes there way. how ever u wanna do it, and no one is going to call u racist.
i hope i dont get called a racist, i dont like causin trouble.
Modern warfare (including WW 2) don't have armies in formation except on parade grounds. The period will not suit TW games I believe unless CA decides to do games like Warcraft or AOE.

it doesnt need specific formations
I can't see how it would work. TW games are all about large formations and even in Empire, although it will be dominated by gunpowder, there will still be large formations.
I'd love to be proved wrong.

theyd be in a unit but it wouldnt look like organised rows of people
They could possibly make the units be able to break down into individual squads that auto acted like modern infantry would.... they would fight when engaged so all you had to do was give them orders and they would assume the right squad formations for the job... but that would take an insane amount of micro management.. and not to mention hefty AI.
I would love to see them pull it off... but i am skeptical

I'd rather see CA perfect the current battle style of swords and axes.
It would be cool to see the 21st century type game, but it would probably not be up to snuff with CA's level.
I'd rather see a Total Earth game where you can conquer the whole world in the TW: Empire time frame.
hey uh... what do rep points do for you?

Like others here, I can't see this working either. And I have never liked post- Napoleonic era RTS's. (It's gotta be formations!)
ok cool
anyway back to the original subject. i think that as time passes and technology improves, the guys at CA might have a shot at it
Well they definetly can do it, but they would have to revolutionize their battle system.
It would turn into another generic modern warfare game, and I would much rather see Medieval 3 than that.

like i said variety is important. having the same thing but improved slightly will only get them so far.
