Default Will there be any "unexplored" regions on the map?

Will E:TW be like in Rome, where the whole campaign map was occupied with factions and everybody knew who everybody was? Or will it be like in Med2, where you had to send parties to the New World to discover new factions/lands.

I would think it would be the latter, but wasn't North America discovered and occupied by the time the 17th century?

Or maybe my history is off.

I dont think there will be any unexplored regions on the map. But it could depend on your faction.

exactly, I think so to. It'll depend on what faction you are. And you might start off with allies and protectorates, which will affect how much you can see on the map. But not everything will be clear, there must be fog of war anyway.
Only areas where your allies have key cities etc. you'll see on the map.

I'd really like something like EB is doing for Rome and has been suggested here. A historically accurate politico-geographical map of the period from every factions POW. Say you're playing the Mughal Empire for instance, you wouldn't know too much about what was going on in Sweden. But you should be able to send an ambassador to a foreign country to try and uncover some of that fog and attain knowledge about the region. As Napoleon put it: "Ambassadors are, in the full meaning of the term, titled spies."

What EuropaUniversalis or EB has is good. What you know depends on the faction. Britain would know all about most of the world, while Ethiopia would not have great knowledge of South America, for example.
