Exactly how is a draft worse than this or this or what about this, let's not forget this one either. What got me thinking about this is that I heard it mentioned on the news this morning, CNN I think, but I couldn't find the story.

But that doesn't change the question. Exactly how is knowingly recruiting misfits better than a draft? Isn't the main argument about the 'quality' of soldier a draft would produce? Are these recruits any better than what one would get in a draft?

Well all of these things were reasons not be draftable. The Army should be made to stop.

I am more than sure that if such an event would occur there would be more than enough volunteers - would you not want to protect your home? The problem in those situations is people lying about age, as was seen in both world wars, and people with skills that are better placed at home, such as engineers wanting to go and fight rather than use their skills for the war effort in different ways (Like my Grandfather - He was an engineer, and nearly left to fight on 3 occasions till they found out who he was and what his skills were....).

From the CSA's point of view, the USA wasn't a nation but rather a confederation of nations. This was the view of many people across America. Even New England tried to secede a couple of times.
