Default A Wee Project - International comparisons

First of all I would like to understand the different levels of taxation, something which can be immensely difficult.

First of all what are the US rates of Taxation? How do you calculate your take home pay.

If Erik is reading this what are the rates of taxation in the Netherlands?

Anyone else from other countries that want to pitch in please do.

Here is the rate of wage tax in the Netherlands:

The first bracket: 33.65% on the first € 17,319. This rate comprises 2.50% tax and 31.15% social security contributions.

The second bracket: 41.40% on the next € 13,803. This rate comprise 10.25% tax and 31.15% social security contributions.

The third bracket: 42% on the next € 21,942. This rate consists solely of tax.

The fourth bracket: 52% on the excess. This rate also consists solely of tax.

    $0 – $6,000 Nil
    $6,001 – $30,000 15c for each $1 over $6,000
    $30,001 - $75,000 $3,600 plus 30c for each $1 over $30,000
    $75,001 – $150,000 $17,100 plus 40c for each $1 over $75,000
    Over $150,000 $47,100 plus 45c for each $1 over $150,000

That is the australian income tax rate

we also have a Goods and services tax in which an extra 10% is added to every thing that we purchase

Anyone who can explain the UK system to me (in the month when it transpires my £3k annual pay rise equates to precisely 9/10ths of **** all take home pay per month) wins a prize.

I can explain if you can give me figures your sentence wasn't to clear, tell me your pay before and after as well as tax and I'll tell you whats going on. Before and after the pay rise.

    On Topic:

So does America have a Sales tax or a value added tax, it appears the netherlands like Britain does though Britains sales tax is 17.5%, does the netherlands?

A better way of phrasing this is take home pay in each country but this doesn't take into account health or other stealth forms of tax or support of infrastructure. The idea is, is to work out the best value country to live in.

    USA

    $0 to 7825 is 10%
    7825 to $31,850 is 15%
    31850 to $77,100 is 25%
    77.100 to $160,850 is 28%
    $160,850 to $349,700 is 33%
    over $349,700 is 35%

Medicare tax is 2.9% of all income
Social Security tax is is 12.4% of all income below $97,500

This does not include state income taxes, local and state sales taxes and literally hundreds of other smaller taxes.

    Tax his land,
    Tax his bed,
    Tax the table
    At which he's fed.

    Tax his tractor,
    Tax his mule,
    Teach him taxes
    Are the rule.

    Tax his cow,
    Tax his goat,
    Tax his pants,
    Tax his coat.

    Tax his ties,
    Tax his shirt,
    Tax his work,
    Tax his dirt.

    Tax his tobacco,
    Tax his drink,
    Tax him if he
    Tries to think.

    Tax his cigars,
    Tax his beers,
    If he cries, then
    Tax his tears.

    Tax his car,
    Tax his gas,
    Find other ways
    To tax his ass

    Tax all he has
    Then let him know
    That you won't be done
    Till he has no dough.

    When he screams and hollers,
    Then tax him some more,
    Tax him till
    He's good and sore.

    Then tax his coffin,
    Tax his grave,
    Tax the sod in
    Which he's laid.

    Put these words
    upon his tomb,
" Taxes drove me to my doom..."

    When he's gone,
    Do not relax,
    Its time to apply
    The inheritance tax.

As a teenager, I was taken to various houses and flats above takeaways in the north of England, to be beaten, tortured and raped over 100 times. I was called a “white slag” and “white ****” as they beat me.

Yes and no. The Federal government does not have a sales tax, however state governments are free to have them. Most states do tax sales (typically around 6%) but there are a couple states with no sales tax (Delaware for example.)

Taxation is a hard thing to work out because direct taxes may be obvious but the unseen taxes are not. Taxes on businesses for example lead to them increasing their costs which passes on to the customer (you) of course. It's probably fair to say that we are taxed a great deal more today than is obvious. And don't forget you often pay tax more than once on the same, or part of the same, monies/properties...
