Thread: Lesson 2 heights, ground_types, roads

problem solved .. NEVER delete a text file and rewrite it from scratch, i did that for Imperial_campaign_regions_etc thinking i could remove all the unwanted region headers .. andeven though my file was smaller (cleaner) , and only containing the Australian region settlements ..and correct, the game spat the dummy!!

Obviously your tip of doing small changes each time then testing it is very valid. ... fragile EXE!!

Theres a big list of them in the Docudemons I sent, though I am not sure if its a "full" list or not.

The one you want is show_cursorstat, place your mouse over the spot you want to know the x,y for and bring up the console and type that in,

I haven't done my mountains on New Guinea yet, but I still wanted to post my progress. Oh and I'm working on some of the heights on the islands but not the main land cause I got off the mountains and I don't know how to layer yet. I guess I could use the terrain map and do change the colors. cool.

I know I'm not technically part of the class, but I'm also learning to map at about the same pace (as you likely picked up from my posts in the help area)
At the moment all the programs I've used to fill areas have been inadequate, Photoshop and Photodraw both produce areas of mixed colours around the rims, which produce that strange purple outline. Paint doesn't even select large areas to begin with, and it would take an age to slowly draw out the outlines of each ground type, what should I be using?

I think it may be due to the fact I'm a local moderator elsewhere, which means I can also see where posts have been deleted, and for what reason etc. Quite useful actually.
I have the download, its GTK + 2.2 runtime environment which I am finding difficulty finding.

It looks like not only the people who registered for this class can post here, so maybe something has gone wrong in the process (as I am not registered with this Class, although I did attend Professor420's Texturing Class, so maybe that's a reason why I can post here).

ok, here's my efforts .. I had a problem trying to get roads to go in the correct places so ended up using impassable terrain alot. trying to get the road builder to understand that using the coastal plains for roads, is tough.

Looking good Rorarii. Roads in a region as big as the ones in Australia are sometimes hard. I had problems with the one in Perth too, one thing you could do is add another region at the top and put that city near the coast too, that will force the road between the two cities to the coast. Up to you, understanding how they work is the goal of the course, and I think you do.

Hey guys, sorry the bump, just to say I'm back on the road after some erm local storms that kept me away from everything on the pc. But I couldn't abandon this great class, maybe the most useful thing I had on any forum, so I'm back again. Now is to hurry and try to finish 2nd lesson issues to start the 3rd.
