What do you think is the best MOD?

Okay Folks. I am wanting to download a new MOD and change from my Vanillia R:TW or my M2:TW. What are the best MODS and why. Please don't just say becuase it is good or something like that. I am really being bombard with all of the different MODS and need some help thanks!!!

As you can see from my sig...I am a true believer in the "Extended Greek Mod" for RTW:BI, it is IMO the most stable mod and the most updated. There are a few AARs in the AAR forum related to XGM right now.
It gives generally good historical accuracy coupled with a few "what if" scenarios. very good...indeed.

If this is the first mod you play, I suggest TE. It's fun, but doesn't have such concepts as AOR.

SPQR depicts massive battles on all fronts. It goes through hard times of the Roman empire and is challenging in all aspects. You command massive legions and a basic battle has between 2000-4500 men on each side.

Europa Barbarorum is a true total conversion of RTW, the closest thing you'll ever get to a real ancient world.

Rome Total Realism: Historicly correct fun Mod, longer battles, better roleplaying possibilities and looks marvelous. I only played the Gold edition, downloading platinum.

Europa barbarorum: Also historicly correct also for the "barbaric" factions, great battles, nice skins.

So far, DarthMod for MTW2 has my vote. I want to make a fantasy mod and a World Map Mod, but I'm still learning how to mod everything.

The better mods (for RTW/BI) have probably been going for some time; although not the best criterion, you could look at the activity/number of posts for the various mod threads at the Org and TWC. This would show their popularity.

I guess mods that have been in magazines or on free magazine CD/DVDs might be another test; the TWC Wiki is a good place to get a look at mods and will tell you at a glance which work modfoldered (meaning you will not need to uninstall them to use other modfoldered mods and, also, will leave your vanilla game intact). They are even listed by genre and period.

As far as I am aware there is no "mod league tables" so to speak and considering their range it would be hard to foresee there ever being one (generic at least).

Looking through interviews and features in forum publications might also help you gain an idea of what you like.

Certainly EB, NTW2 and RTR are high flyers - there are probably another half dozen I could list in a similar category. It really depends what you are looking for.

I think you wont be able to say that you have played the best RTW (don't know much about M2TW) mod until you have tried them all... or at least most of them. Download and play any mod that has had a major release (i.e. not just a battles pack) and you will probably find something really different/cool/amazing about it. If you don't know where to start (what era/style/gameplay/etc.) just pick one and go with it. Though I suggest, with whatever mod you pick, that you read as much as you can about it in its forum so that you can actually enjoy and appreciate its features instead of being confused or completely oblivious to them.
