Default Italia Invicta to adopt a more open development policy

    Hello everyone,

We, the Anno Domini MXVI/Italia Invicta team, decided to adopt a more open development policy for our mod. This means that as of now, everybody will be able to participate to some extent by making propositions, or just giving feedback.

Our private forums won't be used for most development work anymore, they'll just serve for some more problematic stuff such as dev betas which are obviously not user-friendly enough to be released to a large audience.

This is interesting. If this is succesful I think we'll see a change in the way mods are being developed.

Yeah it's a bit of an experiment. One hope I personally have is that if people can participate in mods more easily, we won't see as many projects that are pretty much doomed to fail from the start. The M2TW modding community is extremely fragmented, even worse than the RTW one I remember (but maybe I'm just wearing my rose-tinted goggles)

Cool idea. Though it might be a good idea not to let fans/onlookers actually decide anything.

My point was that E.B. had a quite different developement model to other mods yet I don't think it changed any general trends in the way mod teams arranged themselves.

Well "onlookers" won't get to decide much, except through polls. However, we're currently trying to get a subversion system up so that "trusted fans" and of course devs can upload their versions of certain files.
Normal members will probably get read-only access, so they can download and change it locally and then propose the changes.

Rest assured that I'll have some grip on what happens with the "canonical" version of the mod though.

I am. Any proposition is better than none and especially unconventional ones often make you think in another way about a problem so that's fine.
The only thing I won't have are rants (especially nationalistic ones) about certain things we don't want to include, such as factions, or about how certain stuff is implemented.

I am with you on that lol

I also agree that its good to get other input, sometimes you get focused on something so closely you lose perspective.

To update this, we decided to go a step further and now allow everyone to check out the latest dev copy of our mod. For more info, see the following thread:
