The emergence of the Spanish Tercio should be given greatest consideration, as it was the dominant power of Euorpe, wieled by the Habsburgs to create a massive empire, the extent in Europe of which is shown below:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:H...g_Map_1547.jpg

With Philip the 2nd the Spanish realm consisted of also the Philippines (named after him) and a large swath of the Americas conquered mostly during the reign of Charles V.

Militarily, the Spanish army was about 50:50 pike/musket. As for the Jinetes, they were eventually replaced by mounted arquebusiers. In 1630 I believe the Dragoon was formally adapted. Lancers were common cavalry units. Sword and Buckler units were present.

It should be noted that the realm of Spain at some point also consisted of England and Portugal, though this was all arranged through marriage in the House of Habsburg, which seemed to be a stronger tool than military conquest itself.

Dress was mostly of leg stockings, plated breast armour or chainmail shirt, and a helm, red being the preferred color.

Is spain going to be a seperate faction from the rest of the imperial holdings or do they control all of the Hapsburg empire?

AFAIK they are seperate because at our starting date the Habsburgs were not rulers of Spain yet.

Oh well...? When is the starting date, anyway? I suppose being as it is the Kingdom of Castile and Aragon that Ferdinand and Isabel will be the rulers. I'm wondering if it will be possible to marry into the Habsburg crown?

Hey justme - are you aware of the possibility to unite Spain and the Habsburg lands now? That's not even very hard to script.

Re-dividing them is much harder to achieve, though.
