I think the American Civil War would be a dull scenario. Hell, there were only two sides. It is way better having many foes to fight.

I would personally like to have a TW game about the Japanese civil war with Oda Nobunaga, Takeda Shingen, Uesugi Kenshin and all those guys, since there would be tons of factions fighting each other for power.

I would like to see the whole thing if the civil war was put in a game.
And by this I mean, starting like after the war of 1812, all the way through the westward expansion and the mexican war. So you'd go through the "road to civil war", and then it all leads up to the big event. You would also have to fight through the reconstruction (is that what it was called?) after the civil war, for if you dont manage your new south properly, you might have the second civil war.

    Factions would include:
    The Union
    The Confederates
    The Mexicans
Canadians (what was it called back then?)
    French
    British
    "Lone star state"
    "Bear flag Republic"
and various native american tribes (cherokee comes to mind)

Why would the other bother getting involved? Britain is always mentioned as "siding" with the South but this isn't true (despite the views of individual politicians at the time). Whilst the interuption to the cotton trade was hurting the northern (UK) cotton mills that was eclipsed by the huge amounts that were tied up in more general trade and economic investment that Britain put into the USA in general. Plus there was a very strong feeling against the South and slavery. If anything Britain wanted the conflict resolved as soon as possible.

Sorry to say but I can't see how the native tribes cold really influence the issue, let alone be a viable faction in the game. How could they hope to defeat a determined "Western" (inc US) army of the 1860's? Baring leadership by complete buffoons (Custer?) it just wouldn't happen.

No, not enough scope as a full game. As has been said, possibly a campaign within an expansion.

Well the British and the Union were on the brink of war though during time and lord palmerston was pro-south, since he didn't really like the yankees in the north that much. The war was avert, because of Prince albert's intervention before he died.

I have AC divided nation too, which is ok alright. Anyway the AC civil war would be another either a seperate campaign or an expansion plus i think it should between the late 1830s and 1899 so the southern succession in the US should be an emerging faction and you can choose, which side u want to join.

It also makes me wonder how the unification of Germany and the birth of italy would work??

The ACW would be interesting enough if it was incorporated into an expansion like the Americas were in the Kingdoms expansion; not the main focus but enjoyable enough to play.

Lord Palmerston may not have liked the North but he wouldn't have got Parliament behind him. Britain was much too commercially focussed, hence hostility to the Northern blockade but also the realisation that it was far too costly to get dragged into another war (esp after public reaction to the Crimean bunglings).

I could see it as a campaign in a kingdoms style multi-campaign expansion pack, but not as a whole game. The ACW simply does not have enough international appeal, among other things, to merit it own title.

As much as I love ACW, TW engine would only make mockery out of it.

There are other games I can play when I feel a sudden urge to send hordes of little men in blue and gray to death.

It's a true Total War predecessor... Turn-based campaign map and real-time battles.

If the expansion is about civil war and generally america it will be a major
commercial lose for ca all the above games didnt sell in europe.
so i think a consentration in a spesific region or era is stupid .
it is like making a game about france prussian war of 1870(i think).
perchaps in a expansion like kingdoms it could be in

like a mini campaign (same as Kingdom) I would said yes, otherwise no because they are many other interesting conflicts (like Crimean war) who are also a big impact and never figurated in a game.

As an expansion, sure. As a game? I think many of us hope not. If it did come down to Napoleon vs Civil War for an expansion, brush up on your french

Perhaps not an entirely new game, but perhaps a mod or expansion.

As part of an expansion like Kingdoms i think the American civil war would be great.I know people have been complaining that only two factions are involved, but so what??
With only two factions to work on,and the wealth of infomation available on this conflict,it would result in two very detailed and historically accurate factions.
Also during this war technology like railroads, ironclad ships, spotter ballons were introduced for the first time in war(correct me if im wrong, but i remember reading that somewhere.)

Oh,and NORTH AND SOUTH ruled...one of my fave amiga games

    lias

EDIT..thinking about it,im pretty sure i got a small book all about the American civil war with my copy of NORTH AND SOUTH.Wonder where ive put that???
How about a history book about the years 1700-1800 free with Empires CA

Hi all,I think an ACW expansion pack following a Napoleon pack would be the way to go,You had some 50+years between the two conflicts. The ACW started off using many of napoleons battle tactics,However armaments had moved on as the combatents found to their cost. The rifled musket, cannons etc all far more efficient killing tools.Naval warfare the first ironclads, the first submarine used to sink a warship.Trench warfare introduced siege of petersburg, mines used.there were a lot of interesting inovations introduced in that terrible 4 year conflict, enough surely to make the period interesting to us gamers /modders.If CA could produce an authentic game i think many would buy it.regards magpie.

i think that Shogun2 should at least be up next,
and personally,i hope Empire:tw isnt just all Ship battles
ship fighting is cool but it would get old,
infanrty and cavalry make a TW game,

and yes i agree, The Civil, war would be good too,

But u guys kno what has never been done, oddly enough!

not even by MOA,COD, or anyone that i kno of

is a WW1 Trench warfare game,
if u guys kno of any post a link
