Default The absolute minimum files required to make working mod

    Hi

I'd like to know the absolute minimum of files required to make a mod using mod folders. Let's say I didn't change anything at all - the mod does nothing - it plays exactly like vanilla. What are the files that are absolutely needed in the mod folder in order to play this mod as if it was the vanilla version?

So far, all I know is you need the fmv folder copied to your mod folder, or else you won't be having any videos in the game. What else do you need? It was, apparently, not enough to enable me to play a campaign (I get the "please select an item from the list" error).

The reason I'm asking is because I'm making a sound mod that will only affect sound, but I want it in its own mod folder - and I want a small download and easy installation, skipping any superfluous files.

    Ave Beiss,

If it's a sound mod, all you need is a music folder in Data\Sound. For Voices, I think you need some type of tool.

I know how to edit voices, thanks The problem is I get the "please pick an item from the list" when trying to play a campaign. I need to fix this and whatever else I need and then the sound mod is all set up and ready for upload. I can play custom battles just fine.

"please pick an item from the list" to get rid of this, just copy in the vanilla "world" folder to your mods data folder.

The one that's 500MB large? Do I really need all of the files there? Do I also need anything else, other than the fmv folder?

well you shouldn't include it in your mod (the downloadable one), just state in the readme that if they want to play with your mod only, just place the sounds and world folders in the mod folder.

Oh, you need a config file and a launcher bat. Other than that, I don't know of anything. It always depends on what you want to change.

The bare minimum is the map files and text/settlement... you know, the city names file
As for the map files, of the TGAs you only need fog iirc and you need map.rwm, then some text files (don't quite remember) and of course in the campaign folder you need descr_strat and I believe win_conditions - maybe something else but the error log will tell you.
It's been a while since I tested it so bear with me.

No thing is everything. Every thing is nothing.
