So it is. The denomination of the germanic groups largely depended on exonymous interpretations by foreign neighbours. The Angles after 600 were by far the largest ethnical group amongst the germanics, meanwhile the Saxons eventually were the most dominant during the foundation of Wessex and until they were fought back by an important Celtic warchief, whose name (first mentioned in "y Goddoddin") was probably "Arthur".

Are you still taking feed back or suggestions for the next release (if there is one?)? Should I start a new thread?

just a thought. After a battle wouldn't there be plundering, loot gained etc? perhaps after a battle a set level of money is gained? as i said, just a thought.

That would be great of course. But I guess its an hardcoded feature... Until we find a way to simulate this (this and cattle raids too!).

I copied this from my earlier post:

Good Mod... The battles are very challenging and thus very fun to play. The units are well done and behave like I want them to. My problem with the mod is the strategic part of the game.

Alliances are pretty much worthless and as I see it the only way to survive is war, war, war. I understand that this was a very chaotic time, and definately you must win battles to survive. Perhaps the mod spends too much of its energy on the battles with not enough energy on the events that surround them.
I don't have to be very shrewd to win the game, I just have to slaughter eveyone in my path. Maybe the future versions will focus on economy, trade, character development, lineage etc. Hopefully these thing could make a good game great.

Great mod... I have lost three times as a relatively safe faction (Ynes Maw) so it is definitely tough. The attention to historical detail is fulfilling as well, and I have recently picked up some light reading on this period in Britain as a result of being exposed to this mod. From a game play perspective I would suggest that a force diplomacy sub-mod would be a welcome addition. I realize that the period is intended to be chaotic/backstabbing and violent, but I (and other players) would prefer a little more... flexibility in our strategies. I have tried to make a FD script without any luck, and I only succeeded in messing up my game. Perhaps if the developers only add one part to the mod that could be it? I would comment more on the battles, but frankly I am only playing on M/M because I am a pussy, and i keep losing decisive albeit well-fought wars anyway. I also have seen a number of units (Notably those awesome Jute guys that you order from jutland and wait six turns for) that are lacking in unit cards, and instead just have a vanilla peasant. I am playing 7.0 Raven Feeders.
Thank you for this mod, it has taken me awhile to get around to playing it (I am a mod freak - I play a bunch of them) but it is really a well done conversion that does justice to a time and place that deserves to exist in more than simply mythology. In fact just thinking about it causes me to get excited about playing again, so goodnight!

Edit - There is a fan-made "force diplomacy" script in the forum, so if anyone is interested, they only have to do a quick search...

    Hi!

OK, I found (or I think I have...) a missing skin in one of the units, it's the geburas or whatever they are called!. In the unit card is the unit that has been always in ATW, now, in ATW RF there is a different skin!.

By the way, I'm completetly hooked with this amazing game, I believe is the best mod!

    You are Gods.

    Only a few humble suggestions:

    1) Alex.exe (it's always noticeably better, imo)
    2) Make diplomats/agents harder to acquire (there is a bit of an agent spam going on, esp. w/ diplomats)
    3) Nix the Bretons?
    4) Connect the map to the continent some how? (a Danish/Jute territory on the edge of the map, or even a Frisian faction) Or, remove the continent altogether. I think either way would be great.
    5) ForceDiplomacy would rule.
    6) Never stop modding! You and your team are brilliant!

I know some of these suggestions are either out of your hands or desires (or both!), just wanted to express some ideas. Cheers!

The AI is hardly better, it's not noteworthy in comparison to what can be achieved by modifications. Unique generals aren't worth the effort.

It looks bad, but it doesn't do any harm aside from that. The Diplomat costs are the vanilla settings btw. It's probably rather a map issue.

    3) Nix the Bretons?
We planned to remove some factions and to add new ones for future builds (Merovingian Kingdom, Syagrius' realm). However i don't see why we should remove them for no good reason.

    4) Connect the map to the continent some how? (a Danish/Jute territory on the edge of the map, or even a Frisian faction) Or, remove the continent altogether. I think either way would be great.
That would be a radical change to the map... and for what? Why would that be great?

    5) ForceDiplomacy would rule.
That never works well and unnecessary fuzz in scripts isn't good for the gameplay. There is no historical reason to have any unbrakeable alliances in ATW whatsoever. In such a case, we'd rather implement one single faction including different local cultures.

This thread seems kind of dead but it seems the right place to comment.

Is there any way it's possible to add in Leinster as a faction?
Also could the game feature raiding? These suggestions focus mainly on Ireland and at the time there was a kind of low level of warfare more or less constantly but focused on looting and theft of livestock (and sometimes slaves).
Now this is probably pushing it but could there be a feature that allows a sort of force diplomacy feature, allowing a faction possesing say a third of the island including Meath (the settlement of Tara) to force the remaining Gaelic factions into an alliance giving tribute or to become protectorates. Not permanently but say forcing trade rights and a tribute per turn (proportional to income - as a representation of the cattle paid to the high king). And then after say 5-25 years the subkingdoms rebel (end tribute, cue war)?

ATW is kinda dead my friend i tried to stir it up a bit for the developers to take it to 1.0 at least but i think its finished unless you do stuff yourself , i added rs2 enviroments and changed the map textures and added a few extra units , its a shame really could have developed into a great mod imo , cheers , good luck

Greetings! I already wrote it in other section. There was a question: unit Geburas stand 1200, but very low on indicators. It isn't absolutely clear... Probably, it is an error, a bug? They are won easily by Ceorlgemacan, who are twice cheaper!

the invading saxons were better at fighting, from what I've seen in the export_descr_unit the atw team is genius and would have done it deliberately..due to the historical reasons..
