New Ideas for the next Forum Tournament (my ideas and yours)

Alright guys - a new tournament is brewing! I want to hear your ideas for the upcoming Forum Tourney. I'll provide my own ideas. If you don't like what you see, feel free to give us your own ideas.

Diadochi Tournament
Only Hellenic and Hellenistic factions are allowed. Also, there would be a ban on Chariot Archers and possibly, legionnaires.

Steppe Factions Only Tournament
This is a tourney for the people of the Steppes only. In other words, the only factions are allowed are the factions which have Horse Archers (Armenia, Parthia, Scythia, Dacia).

Roman Civil War Tournament
Only Roman factions allowed here.

Underdog Tournament
This is a tourney for the underdog factions. We'd have to come to some consensus as to what factions are considered "underprivileged" online. For example, I'd consider Gaul and Spain to be the absolute worst. But we'd need a few more factions though to enter (such as Greece, Germania, etc). I know some people can use Thrace well, but I'd still lump them in this category. But we could talk more about that if we need to.

Barbarian Invasion Tournament
Want to have another go at this?

Winter Tournament
No restrictions on the factions, but we'd fight under Winter Conditions giving a bonus to all factions that enjoy colder climates.

i duno man i sort of prefer it as just the normal tournement, i dont like limitations on the factions lol, maybe a different map, like a map with alot of hills (but it could be unfair), or maybe a siege tourenment where the person attacking had a extra money bonus, or you could do it based on the time it takes for the attacker to take the city (this would involve the players playing eachother twice and comparing the times,fastest wins, i saw it on a medieval 2 offical tournement for money and thats how they played), that could take ages tho lol.

I voted underdog, would prove a nice chanlenge as I have yet to play Gaul, germina and all the others online yet, well expect numidia but that could just be above underdog most likely as it is still used by a few people.

Not that i can actually play at the moment, but i think an interesting concept would be to negate the massively important faction, unit and upgrade selection factor. Could only use Romans for this obviously and there would be a preset army decided by the Prince of the Tournwa ( he that loves macedon).

I really think it would throw up some surprises. Talk about shoot myself in the foot, i honestly think most of the reason i have done fairly well in past tourneys is because of the factors ive mentioned above. Id like to test myself on a truly even playing field where tactics alone dictated success or failure.

Why can't I vote in the poll dammit? Anyway, I think Oman's idea is interesting, but bad. Sorry, but I think army selection is important because it allows players to play to their strengths. Say everyone has to play with a very balanced roman army, then it will favour people who normally do that. I personally use more archers and less melee than most, I'd be at an instant disadvantage for no good reason.

Personally, I want an underdog tourny, the winter and helenic ones are also interesting.

I can't vote in the poll so I'll say my bit this way.
-Steppe factions. I play Scythians myself and I know that battles between Steppe factions can be brutal. Problem is that they are over real quick or they last ages.
-Hellenic tournament. Might be fun to see phalanx tactics.
-Underdog. The factions you almost never see, just for fun.

Id also be at a disadvantage as i know (better than some anyway), which units to upgrade etc and which factions beat certain other factions, and so on... thats sort of the whole point though. If you all have the same army, you have to use pure tactical and manourvering skill to win the battle. We would all be at a disadvantage of some sort, as it would be an army that we did not choose, and you would have to make the most of what you have. But of course, this is only my opinion, and it doesnt seem very popular anyway

I think hellenistic would be interesting or do the Roman thing.
Pit legion against legion. See who would be cut out to lead a Roman army to victory. Who has better tactics. Who's lines hold against their opponents.

I put Underdog. A battle between factions that are never used online will allow a fresh expereince for people, as you never fight hman players using them.

Oman. I definitely see your point, by completely levelling the playing field you could have a very 'pure' competition. I just think it would favour too much people who normally play with an army similar to the pre-set one. If you are a specialised commander and get given a balanced army, you are at a disadvantage to someone who normally uses a balanced army, since you have to adapt and they don't.

To make a reasonable seige you need more attackers then defenders, so thats sort of 2v1. To even do that I need to put unit size down otherwise the game lags as alot can happen.

i played and i agree with prince it sux cause it has low frame rate and i noticed someone always loses connection

Seiges tend to be quite long affairs as well. Not so good for the tourney scenario.

Octavian, I could possibly say that a normal tourney favours the person that knows the faction, unit, upgrade game best.I do see your point, however just dont agree with it. No problem, such is life mate. Lets agree to disagree. Its a democracy under the Prince anyway, so most votes will get it.

A lot of people seem ok with a "Crappy Factions" tournament. That's why I made that other thread.
