Default Ships (I know that title could mean anything, but it is quite relevant)

In all the TW games up to ETW ships are both warships and transporters. In ETW will we have seperate types of ships? If so how will they be portaryed on the battlefeild. I hope for the ability of a raid, swoop in a smash as many transporters as you can.

Analysis should not be diverted by reflections upon the zeal with which the victors at the end of the Second World War punished the defeated for war crimes. The victors were animated by the ideals of the Atlantic Charter and of the United Nations. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was about to peep over the eastern horizon. But first, they wanted a little hanging.

That's been confirmed, Yoda Twin. We will have marines and boarding actions.

You'll find out more about how transporting units works in Empire in the due course of time.

It would be cool seeing your army that you were transporting in a fleet that got attacked get involved in a naval battle.

It would be even nicer if you could bypass the warships and take down the transports in a suicide raid

Most warships would be converted into transports en flute. A dangerous, but highly effective way to move troops. Normally these where warships that could not longer stand in the battle line and fight but not so old to become hulks or prison ships. The guns would be removed from the upperworks and the 'tween decks and the troops and their baggage would be loaded aboard. Arms would be limited, perhaps some lighter chasers and the small arms. These ships were not meant to fight, but to be used as pure transports. Do not confuse them with pirate ships armed to the teeth with men for a quick boarding action, this was not their purpose.

Escort ships were used instead to see the troop transports safely on their way. These could be anything from the smaller 6th rates to frigates. As like a convoy of merchants, these ships would make sure that the transports could flee rather then make a stand and fight. It was more impotant to get the men to their destination then stand on pretence and fight for glory. There were orders to be followed after all.

It will be interesting to see have they transport troops in Empires. I hope they change it from the way it is to a more suiting way for this installment. One feature I really hope they include is land support from ships. This could include bombardments and amphibious assaults where troops would take row boats to the shore.

This would be a plus to the new naval combat and make it more important, also I think that the price of ships should be expensive to buy so they will be more important to you. This would also keep the players from spamming ships and they would have a sense of accomplishment when they build a fleet of twenty ships.

    Default Armies on fleets.

Alright, through the last few total war games you have been able t load your armies onto fleets to transport them quicker or to destinations afar, but there are those rare occasions when you under equip a fleet that is attacked and sinked with your army general and artillery going down to the bottom of ther sea () now for me i would logically think that my army on the fleet would contribute to the outcome of the battle yet they dont. . so what im saying is that armies on fleets should HELP!! not sit there in the lower deck in a feetal position. So for example, if your sending a sloop to reinforce a fleet over seas you should be able to put 60 musketeers on the ship to act as marines incase the ship is attacked in transit Dont you think?

What I want to know is will armies be loaded indivually on ships? So if one gets sunk you'll lose a small portion of your army?

Unless the army is very small they'd have had to go on special transport ships. They'd likely have had light to no armaments and therefore their impact on the battle (as a result of their firepower) would have been almost non-existent.
However I do think that they should be represented on the battle map to add variety and different tactics to the naval engagements. If one fleet is trying to protect the flotilla of transports and the other defend it, I think it'd make for some interesting battles. It'd make attacking invading fleets really worthwhile as even if you were on a desperate suicide mission you could do enough damage to alter the course of the war even if you didn't win.

There is a topic on this already. Make sure that you search the forums before making a new post- it should not take too long on such a new forum.
