Icon5 Do you prefer my works in a single pack?

    Hello fellow players,
As you know I am at the moment maintaining 3 modifications for SPQR: the trade fix, the superpowers fix, and the semi-automatic script activation. I am under the impression that several of you are using them with positive results.

Now I have this idea to stop the 3 different releases, and to publish them in a single pack. The aim is to make life easier for you, that will be able to download and install a single file instead than 3, and for me, that I will have a single file to maintain, thus avoiding confusion.

I'm posting this to know your opinion about my idea. Do you think I should go on? Or perhaps should I leave them separate? Please argument your suggestion, especially if you vote no!

it says i may not vote on this poll? whys that?

hi teo i am editing my post.

i am using all your mini mods, and i must say they are all working superbly. although i am a relative newcomer to this mod, i can see that you have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into your work.

i would definetely say you should have all the mini mods rolled into one install. perhaps with a checkboxlist so that a user can deselect certain ones if they wish!

mmm... I think you need a minimum number of posts to vote on a poll.
That's not a problem anyway; just edit your post, and state your opinion there. Since you'll be writing, I will much appreciate if you elaborate your wish.

Yeah, then the medival total realism team held a poll on factions about 100 BavarianKnight25 users appeared to vote.

mmm... no! The whole point is making a single file and remove the 3, so it is easier for me to maintain it! It would be to your advantage too, because having to focus on a single pack, I would advance more quickly and with less chance of error

The trade fix will be updated soon. Now I am conquering Egypt and Greece: in Greece there is almost nothing to do, the cities are so close that they trade very well. But in Egypt there is A LOT of work to be done.
BTW, what do you think of the other extensions? The superpowers fix changes gameplay, and so it is a matter of tastes, but I should expect the semi-automatic activation thing to be useful to everyone?

Maybe I will proceed in this way: a single pack for the extensions that do not modify gameplay (trade and semi-automatic script) and a larger pack with those AND the superpower fix. But I want to wait for further comments, that I appreciate very much.

    hello teo

i would wrap all the installs inside a single installer file.

customise the installer and provide the user with a checkboxlist. so that a user can select/deselect whichever mods they want actually during the installation process.

i have never done game modding but i am a programmer by trade, so if you need help with that then give me a shout!

    Yes, that would be cool...
I noticed that you have already suggested that, but at first it scared me off because I never played with installers
Of course if you say that you know them and would give a hand, things are different!

I suppose you have already seen my works, and you have seen how many files there are. There is actually one file that is DIFFERENT among two of them. Do you think it would be easy to make an installer?

    hi teo

i think you should give it a go. spend an evening or 2 playing around with it.as a game modder, its definetely a nice skill to have in you locker. of course it really depends how much spare time you have i guess.

Also Teo, I have conquered all of Greece in my campaign and I would be willing to upload my save so you can make your changes without going through the conquest yourself.

The only thing I need to know is how to upload the thing if you want to do that.

both suggestions sound very promising...i personally like the check-box idea better...also, have you and tai4ji2x worked out compatibility issues for the scripted rebellion?...i just don't seem to understand the loading directions that he posted for scripted rebellion but that is another topic...thx, hannibeau

mmm I think I will try it. Of course, at the moment I am focusing my RTW time in conquering Greece...
Could you please suggest me an easy and possibly open installer?

The real problem in that region is Egypt; Greece seems to be trading well. Have you subdued Egypt too? To upload, just attach the file in your post, you will see the command in the "advanced editing" page.

I exchanged some messages with tai4ji2x; as he stated himself some hours ago in his thread, he will be out for some time. As soon as he comes back we will try to do some good improvement.

No I don't, in fact I have no real estate in Africa. To make it worse, Egypt is under Seleucia's control who also happen to be my allies against Greece.

Since I can't help in that respect, is there anything else I can do?

Thanks GaussSoldier, you are very helpful indeed!
At the moment there are not many things to do really, at least not before I finish my conquering work.
But I think I will have something to let you test in the almost-near future...

thank you for the time spent on the mini's...the trade fix is all i really wanted and it works very well...i fear that the superpower fix might affect gameplay a little to much for my style of play...but again thank you for the concern and sharing these mini's w/ us...thx, hannibeau

hm - just got a major PC restart , while in 1st battle against gauls - 2nd turn.....
    perhaps messed up instalations .....
(defrag -scan - restart saved game )

    - 5 min into reloaded save - 3rd turn - battle started with gauls - np till now
    - 1 h into reloade game 8th turn - lots of battles - ok ; but in a siege south - game freeze in-battle while arranging the units - restart PC only wy ( grouping per unit hastatii with hastatii etc)

-after 2 unsuccesfull reloads ( freeze at begging of any battle) I decided to reinstall RTW - SPQR - and to do a more carefully mini-mod (urs) install... i (we) will see....

    - EDIT nr 4...

just reinstalled SPQR & avoid superpowers ( over the RTW folder just like that hm - it works - so far) - reloaded that troublesome save & 11th turn its ok lots (tons like 10 per turn !) of field & siege battles np ...; strange that other mini-mods didnt work allthough might be as i said a wrong install on my part
