    Default Faction Armenia: Music Thread

Let all of us post the best Instrumental armenian music we have and make sort of a Music base in this thread.

I will update this thread with the music that will be posted in the future. So everything that has to do with music and armenia goes here as an Armenian music index.

I recommend that if you care about having music that is "real" , you should take time to listen to these... for inspiration or more. If you dont care, thats another story.

    I start with some music.

Please remember that there is no exclusive "Armenian" music slot. Intead we have an over all "east christian" one that will be used for Byzantium, Armenia and Georgia. So I'd recommend this thread be dedicated to "east christian" sounds which would incorporate greek, armenian and georgian instruments.

Secondly, I will do no post processing of musical tracks and I'd prefer they be provided with the following technical facts of how music is split up in TW:

    1) Strat Map Music

Slow, calm and ambient sounds. Usually no percussion. Many pauses or slow areas and very immersive.

    2) Battle map music
    Divided into 3 elements:
A - Tension Music: Before any of your units have begun moving. Slow, ominous, foreshadowing and not upbeat or too energetic.
B - Mobilization Music: Once the first of your units have started moving. Fast, energetic but not "climactic" or too "epic".
C - Battle Music: Once opposing armies have collided and engaged in combat. Very fast, intense, climactic and epic.

Make sure that any music you provide falls into these categories clearly and that you label them as such when posting it. Any track that's provided without referencing to these technical aspects will not be used.

Read my post above. I will use it if and only if you follow the format I specified. If you really wanna help out we expect all the post-processing work to be done by yourselves. We have enough tasks on our plate as it is.

So read through my post and follow those guidelines, post the music with according categories and it will be matter of me simply dropping the track into its appropriate slot.

So, yes, I will use it upon those conditions being met.

There is also an issue of file size. We cannot have too much music of one group compared to another, or have so much music that it increases the file size astronimically.

That being said, as mirage says, if we can have it met with those parameters, we'll use it.

Also, if you're confused at what those technical requirements mean exactly then please go into your vanilla folder and do some musical exploration of the M2TW soundtrack to get an idea what things like "tension" "mobile" "battle" and "strat" are supposed to sound like.

And of course these are all minimum requirements. The final and most important requirement is that the music is actually appropriate and tasteful. Once again use the vanilla music as a guideline - CA might have messed up a lot of things but music is something they never get wrong.

This has a lot of character and flavor. I think it would be good for mobilization or battle music. The whole album has great stuff played on the oud, so if you want anything else feel free to ask.

For Armenian music (and I believe Georgian music too; Greek music-- a little) I suggest using what you shall know as Phrygian mode (mostly the Phyrigian Major Scale, this is the most prominent scale in Armenian music,) Georgian scale and lastly what is known as the Byzantine scale.

About the Greeks, I am of no use.

Well if people aren't willing to put in the most minor amount of work that the guidelines in post #3 involves then I guess thats no fault of our own.

It really not that hard to find a track, deteremine which parts fall into which category (strat, tension, mobile or battle), edit and cut it up with a sound editing program, put it on sendspace and finally post the link here telling me the details.

    OK.
I updated the first post, after sorting some out. To bad you dont have a music slot for each faction after all Greek, Armenian and Georgian culture/music have its differences....
    But its fully understandable.
And I thought you were using Location music, like if ur in arabia its arabian music, armenia... armenian music etc.

Awsome job Arsen, thats pretty much what I'm looking for.

Battle music is based on location, yes. But you can only asign a "culture" to each region(s). So we've assigned one culture to the Armenians, Georgians and Byzantium. Hence the reason why they share the same music.

There is a max of like 6 cultures I think.

I do my best to affect the mod for the best

okay, sounds good. But is there any limits for how many cultures you can have and therefore a limit for how many music "styles/cultures" you have?

If not will you make a deeper work for letting armenian have its own music and georgian its own, it adds alot for the atmosphere for the player. (off course there are other important parts of the mod that have to be worked on, considering the mod aint even released yet).
But what I mean is that it should feel a bit weird having Greek music and playing as georgia or vice versa.
So my guess is you are making an All-round music that can suit all of them instead of concentrating on the musics of every nation.

    edit:
    @Sejanus: Very nice Soundtrack!!!!

Yes # musical slots = # cultures. I have zero intention of giving Christian factions another music slot. Especially considering the fact that they already have two (KoJ = north_european+KoH style music). And giving Armenian or Georgians their own music slot is not going to happen.

And I'd say most mainstream players, save the Armenians and Georgians, would not be able to differentiate between Georgian and Armenian music. Most importantly we're not interested in making the music authentic as a first priority. Frankly 90% of classical instrumental music are totally innappropriate and ear-hurting when applied to a game.. a game that people may play for hours... and hearing a duduk wailing for 5 hours is not very pleasant for most. The same goes for all musical styles like persian or arabic.

When/If Aeranis gets around to east Christian music we'll make sure to keep the music mainstream and only apply traditional sounds of the culture to give it a specific style and flavour.

Feel free to PM me samples of authentic Armenian and Georgian music... I'm fairly good at copying styles/evoking them, so some solid, traditional samples should really help.

Hey! Glad to see you here now
If you can, you could just listen to some of the strat music, like i said, to get an influence of how the music stile is and then you could quite easily with your skills make a soundtrack mixed with a bit of everything.

    cheers
