Dunno if this counts as history, but the Gulf war. Now I know there were individual battles in it, but the speed of the operation puts it up there imho.
Would anyone else of fared any better if they were locaated right next to germany ?
First in the last 150 years the Germans hadn't showed the French, They won the Franco-Prussians wars it's true but they lost so badly the WW1 that they would revenge in a second WW ( 2-1 a better score for Germans but not a "showed").
But we could also speak about Iéna and Auerstedt these battles were also a good example of military humiliations...![]()

I wouldnt call the Hundred Years War a great French victory. The fact that England held on for over 120 years is an embarrassment. Many countries have fought similar wars yet have expelled invaders within 20 years. The fact that france took so long is not something to be proud of. The French should be more proud of their victories in the 30 years war or the Battle of the Dunes then the Hundred Years War.
The 100 years war was a great victory because the English was defeated and rejected in their island without a treaty of peace after 100 years of pillage and murders, but the more important thnig that France became a Nation in the end of the 100 years war.
To understand that it was like the America Independace War, American suffered many defeated against the British but finally British lost the last battles and USA became an Nation.
The only differences is France didn't have a Foreign help and known a critic civil war during the 100 years wars, that were for these reasons it took more times.

When did I say it was continuous?Apparently you were sick on the day that your history class learned that the HYW was actually comprised of 4 main conflicts, and was in no means continuous.

Yeah but it took 8 years (6 years of combat) not 120......To understand that it was like the America Independace War, American suffered many defeated against the British but finally British lost the last battles and USA became an Nation.

All of the Balkans is not worth the bones of a single Pomeranian grenadier.

France won the 100 Years War, fair play to them but what Ifrisco is trying to point out is that France won a Phyrric victory. The English were victorious in most of the battles, most of of which they were horrendously outnumbered in. Any victory the French gained over the English was because they had a massive superiority in numbers (excluding Patay which was more of an archer massacre by heavily armed men on horseback). Additionally, given the populations and sizes of the two 'nations' France should have squashed any English army that ventured onto their turf.
France had Castillion allies, Scottish allies (they sent thousands of troops to France), Italian allies.... etc.
When you say England held on for over 120 years implies its continuous.
They faired No better if not worse then the french did during the early stages of english victories under Edward III and the black prince.
Because going from Canterbury to Calais is anything like crossing the atlantic ocean. Riiiiiiiiiight.
Numbers dont ammount to much when thousands of arrows that can break platemail are coming at you while your wading in the mud, as was the case in battles like Crecy. Even during Agincourt when the armour had advanced so it could repel arrows they did add to the pains by making french soldiers who were alredy virtually stuck in the mud by knocking them over, and in that mud and with the weight of your armor once you fell you couldnt get up. And lets not forget that French armies were always on the offensive, while the english took positions behind stakes and fired volley after volley. It wasn't a Phyrric victory for France because in the end of the of the 100 years wars France had a modern and a powerful army, recovered all their lands and became one of the most powerful nation instead of England had a civil war, lost all their French lands with all their pretention of the French throne forever.
France was much more stronger after the 100 years than before contrary to England.
False French armies won great victories against the English without had a massive superiority (excluding Patay of course) .
Battle of Orléans: 6400+militia French against 5000 English
Battle of Patay: 1500 French against 5000 English
Battle of Formigny: 4500 French against 7000 English
Battle of Castillon: 8000 French against 6000 English
