I don't care about ambushes .It's a question with what quality armies you march .
But I can't choose the place of the battle at all .The enemy being somewhere doesn't withdraw to a nonforested area .And the trees hint you give orders and see well what's happening .You can win win in most of the cases but yet it is annoying .
yer i know what you mean drac. i hate wooded battles. the AI can see all whereas our view is BADLY impared by trees.
ambushes are fun to do though...
i just really wish that someone could change the coding for trees in battle so they are highly opaque. i would REALLY REALLY really really realllllly love that. but its probably an impossibly... *sigh*
But the amount of trees on the strat_map is probably more historically correct as European forests used to be huge.
actually on the topic of forests in the battle maps:
i was in a battle the other day in greece (near olympia statue of zeus) where i ordered my men through an area of trees. Some got stuck as two or three trees were so close together they made an almost 'u' or 'v' shape where the men and cavalry got stuck in the gap- so i had to get the remaining men in the units to circle where the men were stuck to get them free... probably just where two areas of trees were merged.
wasnt all that bad though. if it happens again ill take screen pics for proof.

Well ,i don't care how real trees existed back then .Normally both commanders would lead their troops in an open field even if they are currently in a forest -to do the battle there .Except maybe for some wild wild wild barbarians .
I'm playing with the greek cities since past week sunday. My current empire:
In Turkey, i had every 'visible' region. And look what i have left. Those god damn Seleucids are so overpowered.
Horum omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae.
Be sure to retain Rhodes or your naval trade income will fall with 40 % .In every game of mine I send a fleet and a full army to capture Rhodes in the very beginning of the game .It is worth 10 cities as your al ports income increases with 40 % .Should be same here in RS .
In SPQR however which I play at the moment a mine owning city can be 10 times more profitable than any port/dockyard city etc .
When you play the GC, you start with Rhodes as capital. I only need to defend it.

I think we have, or we intend to remove the bogus wonder bonuses.

The only thing that annoys me, is that the trees are so frickin' big. They look like sequoia's! They are way too big, at least 30 times bigger than a man.

Hmm there is a line in preferences.txt .
BATTLEMAP VEGETATION :TRUE
I just turned it to FALSE . But didn't have time to play and tell you what happenes .I expect it not to load any trees on battlemap with this setting false .But we'll see .Maybe it doesn't have efect.
I think thats for bushes and grass detail etc.

You mean like the temple of Artemis etc !? This is not a good idea .It just makes the game variable .You could decrease their importance with some points but to take them out is a bad idea .
BTW I saw a mod which once incorporated you fight IN the surroundings of the wonders CLOSELY -like the Alexandrias Pharos .The mod puts the battle in front of the wonder, not just to see it in the distance .In Olympia it was in the fence perimeter near the walls of the temple of Zeus ...Looks great on the screenshots . Why don't you incorporate it in your mod ?
