I freaking love this stuff. Since Wiki says what I like about it as well as I ever could, I'll just post some of my favorite parts.
This song by DragonForce exemplifies everything I like about power metal:...a lighter, more melodic sound and making frequent use of keyboards...
...an epic sound tempered by characteristics of speed metal...
...Power metal's lyrical themes, though as varied as metal itself, typically focus on Fantasy and Mythology, comradeship and hope...
...highly focused on the vocalist, with "clean" vocals being much more prevalent than the growling vocals often associated with death metal and black metal...
...Power metal guitarists and bassists generally play rapid streams of notes, but change chords comparatively slowly, with a harmonic tempo of once per measure or slower. Fast and demanding guitar solos, however, are almost guaranteed...
And it's going to be on Guitar Hero 3!DragonForce's musical style includes:
* Emphasis on fast, twin-guitar harmonies (Kirk Hammett has called them "the fastest guitar players [he's] ever seen"[2])
* Lyrics of a fantastical or epic nature
* Use of background choral singing throughout songs
* Generally optimistic and uplifting chorus sections (musically and lyrically)
* Video game influenced melodies and guitar noises
* Usage of keyboard
Here's a preview of what it might look like. Except the actual version will be harder because it makes you play the acoustic notes at the beginning, causing most people to fail before 3% completion.
My fingers hurt just thinking about it.
