    Default Power Metal

I freaking love this stuff. Since Wiki says what I like about it as well as I ever could, I'll just post some of my favorite parts.

...a lighter, more melodic sound and making frequent use of keyboards...

...an epic sound tempered by characteristics of speed metal...

...Power metal's lyrical themes, though as varied as metal itself, typically focus on Fantasy and Mythology, comradeship and hope...

...highly focused on the vocalist, with "clean" vocals being much more prevalent than the growling vocals often associated with death metal and black metal...

...Power metal guitarists and bassists generally play rapid streams of notes, but change chords comparatively slowly, with a harmonic tempo of once per measure or slower. Fast and demanding guitar solos, however, are almost guaranteed...
This song by DragonForce exemplifies everything I like about power metal:

    DragonForce's musical style includes:

    * Emphasis on fast, twin-guitar harmonies (Kirk Hammett has called them "the fastest guitar players [he's] ever seen"[2])
    * Lyrics of a fantastical or epic nature
    * Use of background choral singing throughout songs
    * Generally optimistic and uplifting chorus sections (musically and lyrically)
    * Video game influenced melodies and guitar noises
    * Usage of keyboard
And it's going to be on Guitar Hero 3!

Here's a preview of what it might look like. Except the actual version will be harder because it makes you play the acoustic notes at the beginning, causing most people to fail before 3% completion.

My fingers hurt just thinking about it.

I love Power Metal, and DragonForce, they're both awsome.

I used to listen to them more awhile ago but now have since moved on to other type of metal!

I like Herman Li the best

Not my favourite metal sub-genre, but there's some good stuff (Sonata Arctica )

The best power metal band IMO though is Metal Church (they're closer to thrash with power influences really, but whatever)

I'm assuming you're from Sweden so Power Metal should naturally come to you.

DragonForce, unfortunately, just have one strong album - their first one. They kick all sorts of butt though, no doubt about it.

Apart from the bigger names, I've been listening to some Crescent Shield recently .... And the new Blind Guardian.

Edit: OMG Metal Church is traditional Heavy Metal (with Thrash influences during the earlier albums) .... Power Metal is used to refer to European "Heavy" bands that play a very fast brand of Met0l!

I know they're not really 'tr00' power metal, but they are clearly influenced by it. And if metalarchives.com list them under power metal it's good enough for me.

Me too, but their music/songs sounds too similar to each other.

I agree, it seems way to over the top.

dont get me wrong i enjoy a good solo/riff (think kirk hammet) but this stuff goes beyond the point where i find it enjoyable. i like really heavy stuff aswell, but only when im either playing it or really in the mood to listen to it
