I was just thinking that if any of us ever run for public office could it be that our comments on places like this could be used against us in a hypothetical election?

Probably, if somebody has the time and effort to dig through piles of posts to try and point out to the world what an idiot we used to be.
If somebody was running right now, they would have to watch what they say. 20 years from now...not so much.

I've thought of that, and yes, they most certainly would.
Hmm, is it possible some important world leaders are frequent visitors of our forum but choose to hide their identity?
It's possible i guess.

I'm R2D2, plugged into the computer. Ever since we defeated the empire ive been bored bloody stupid.
Yeah, I have no doubt people will have plenty to regret if internet forums are used during election time.
in 20 years time, we'll all be bowing our heads to our superevolved radioactive cockroach overlords so it wont matter much, will it?
I've known people who've had Usenet posts cited against them in disciplinary hearings at their workplace, so this would be a certainty if their opponents knew who they were and where they frequented. Thinking about it, I know someone who hopes to progress in his career to national representative level, who retreated from internet forums precisely for fear that they would be used against him. I know that if I were ever to run for an election, I'd make damn sure every trace of me would be wiped, as far as is possible, having done and said many things I'm none too proud of.
Well, I wouldnt be the type of politician to cower and backpedal, so I wouldnt care WHAT people dug up against me.
Are you kidding me? National smack talk sessions are sport to me, I'll diss somebody in 10 bars and have a record deal the next day.
Yeah, I'm a bastard son of GWB... you see now the reason I despise the administration
Anyway, I (almost) always say what I preach. I believe it's very important for the politician to say and do what they preach.
So fine, dig whatever posts I've written in this forum, I'm not ashamed of them.
BULLET PROOF, YOU WANT ME TO LOOP THE BEAT???
No, but my comments on Stormfront might be...

If they discovered my true identity they would probably send me to Guantanamo Bay, let alone trash my election chances.
But it's an interesting question.
I think most bloggers () could easily get into some serious problems if they ever decided to become politicians.
And it won't surprise me if many would-be politicians start out as bloggers.
Not so sure about internet forums, though.
Except for the OP's most posts don't make much sense unless you know the entire discussion, so even if they filter out a one-liner you can probably wave it away as a joke or troll.
I would vote Erik all the way because of his comments on the internet forum.
Not against him.
His posts are so robustly humanitarian that I feel human just by reading his stuff. Including his one-liners. XD
