Howling Bells - Howling Bells
A predominantly gloomy album, with flashes of energy here and there, but inevitably drags you back into its dark beauty. Juanita Stein's vocals are often compared to those of Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval and PJ Harvey, but it contains more rawness than the former, and is gentler than the latter.
Highlights:
Low happening: A straightforward rocker, with an infectious guitar riff. Think My Faourite Game by The Cardigans.
A Ballad for Bleeding Hearts: A quiet, but feelingly vulnerable ballad.
Setting Sun: Mildly psychadelic indie pop, mixed in its origins but triumphant in tone. Put this on your CD player to brighten up your day.
In the Woods: A dreamy duet between Juanita and Joel Stein.
