My apologies. I suppose it was off topic.

Today next concept art for Nubians. It's Nubian infantry. This is the most heaviest type of infantry which have Nubians. These troops have medium length spears for fighting in free space and against cavalry and short Nubian swords for close fighting; have leather shields, quilted armour and iron helmets with quilted aventail for protection. Since the issue of helmets remains open, the helmets are 100% hypothetical. Short swords with a sash over shoulder can be seen on medieval Nubian paintings. Quilted armor presumably have warriors from the Crucifixion scene from Faras' Cathedral. Swords and helmets also mentions by Ibn Hawqal as weapons of al-aḥadiyyūn in his book Kitab Ṣūrat al-arḍ (about 977 A.D.):

Between 'Alwa and the country of the Highlanders there is a sandy desert extending as far as the country of Amqul (Amqal); it is a vast district with innumerable villages, various peoples speaking different languages, which cannot be counted and whose frontier cannot be described: they are called Aḥādis (al-aḥadiyyūn). ... The western frontier of these peoples is not well known. They dress like the people of Maghrib (al-maghāriba), and make use of camels and horses, as beasts of burden; but these animals are not strong-built: they are of small size and have short hair. Their armament consists of shields (daraq) similar to the shields of the Maghrabis; egg-shaped helmets (bīd), javelins (hirāb) and swords (suyūf) of poor quality. Their warriors wear long spotted trousers (sarāwīlāt mufattaha), and their sandals (ni'āl) are similar to those of the Maghrabis. They are Christians and are subjects to the Lord of 'Alwa. They are separated from this kingdom by a distance of five days' Journey of which three days are through sheer deserts (mafāwiz).

As well Nasir i-Khusraw (about 1050 A.D.) reports interesting information:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
If one travels from Egypt southwards and crosses the Nūba province (an-nūba) one arrives in the province (wilāya) of the Muṣamida, which is a vast country rich with pastures and domestic animals; its inhabitants are Blacks of a tall stature and strongly built; many soldiers in Egypt come from that people; they have ugly features, stocky bodies and for this they are called "Muṣamida" ("fighters"): they fight on foot, armed with sword and spear; they do not know the use of other weapons.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd images represents the same type of warrior. The 1st warrior bear the sword in Nubian style - on the sash over the left shoulder, and 2nd warrior fixed his sword's scabbard by belt in Meroitic style.

The 3rd is bannerbearer. The banner is 100% hypotetical. It represent the monogram of St. Archangel Michael (one of the known in Nubia). Earthly Christian Nubian army appeal to the Chief of Heavenly Army for protection.

    Sexy sexy.

But the helmets are not that hypothetical, remember the graffittos from Musawwarat? All three persons had that helmet.

The 1st warrior bear the sword in Nubian style - on the sash over the left shoulder, and 2nd warrior fixed his sword's sheath by belt in Meroitic style.
In Meroe swords were also worn on the back (Check your pm.)

Wiki says that it's the largest Nubian dialect. I'm personally not a specialist in this.

Here's the youtube channel about Nobiin

I checked my book and it states that from Assuan to Korosko people speak Kenzi, from Wadi al-Arab to Kerma they speak Nobiin (Medieval Nobiin is called Old-Nobiin) and from Kerma to Debba they speak Dongolawi.
So I guess the Nobiin is legit.

Since when do modern Nubians use the Old Nubian alphabet? Recent development?

I don't know the history of this issue, but I think it began in XXth century.

Would be cool if this script could be established as official script. Would at least slow down the rapid Arabization of the Nubians.
