I would like to propose a new thracian AOR, EB style. The bastarnae have great offencive capabilities, but the total lack of armor reduces their tactical use, so i propose a unit simmilar to the thracian romphaiophoroi from EB. It could be the same bastarnae but with bronze cuirass and maybe the small round shield of the slingers. The better deffence could be balanced by higher upkeep and 2 turns to produce. recruited from lvl 3 aux. barracs. This unit - besoi nobles for example - could help the greeks and such when fighting agains factions like the seleucids and pontus, who rely heavily on skirmishers.

This is my first post in these forums, so I just wanted to say to the XGM crew, that you have created a fantastic mod!

Not sure if these have been brought up before, the post is getting a bit long to search through...

a couple of units I would like to see added are
    1) Thesselian Cavalry (Heavy Cav)
    2) Macedon and Greek Cities
    3) Tier 4 barracks
    4) Regular
    6) Thesselia (misspelled)
    7) They were the only region that provided any real amount of cavalry in greece, and their cavalry was used by Macedonia once it came under Macedon's control

I would also like to see Phalangites specific for Athens, Thebes, and Corinth to go along with the ones for Sparta, like RTR 6 has (maybe the RTR crew would let you use the graphics for them?). The greeks tended to have unique looking hopolites/phalangites specific to their cities, helmet, shield, and color wise, and Sparta, Athens, Corinth, and Thebes are the main cities of Greece (and this is the Greek mod ).

Please keep on with the wonderful work people!

thessalian cavalry was included but removed for some reason, however the greeks get armoured cavalry which is basically almost the same thing except without the feathers on the pylos (or whatever the helmet is)

also your list is confusing... ?

DBH, I was wondering how far along the regional hoplites were progressing?

I propose that the old armour calavlry unit should changed back. I dont like the new design.

i think that somewhere down the track Iberia needs a bit of unit variety. If they could take advantage of a Gallic AOR and Gallic mercenaries in Celtiberia province (which they often capture early) that would be a start.

Other ideas that occur are javelin cavalry in Cantabria (after all, that tribe surely gave their name to the 'circle' tactic) + an axeman in the northern provinces (EB have such a unit) + perhaps a Vascones/Basque Hillman (slightly buffed version of the eastern hillmen).

Also, i haven't checked the unit stats recently, but weren't Caetratii better than average hand to hand fighters (starting a long tradition of Spanich sword & buckler men) who should be able to go toe to toe with Hastatii etc?

The Spanish roster is a bit bland right now. All their units fight the same style (Romanesque) with pila and shortswords, the only exception being Heavy Spearmen. Their cavalry is composed entirely of lancers, nothing else, and their only missiles are archers. I like the Cantabrian cavalry units idea, could be similar to Thracian light cav.

I propose giving them and the Thracians slingers at the 2nd tier, and archers at the third, like what has been done to Gaul and Germania. Its odd that half the barbs get the slingers and half don't. Plus having slingers and archers changes play styles a whole lot, giving a more diverse playing experience.

I second the Cantabrian Javelin Cavalry and suggested it a while back.
I totally agree with both Hippias and Scutarii.
Give all the Iberian units hide/ambush abilities as well, including the cavalry!
Make their leaders more likely to have the ambusher trait(s).
Then they can do some real hit and run damage.

Fix the problem, not the blame!

One question: Do the Germans already have hiding/ambush traits for their units? I was under the impression they did, but if not, that should be added to them and the Iberians.

A little earlier in this thread, when people were discussing city specific hoplites, especially for the core greek cities, I can see the resistance to having those. I played version 2 or whatever it was, when athens, corinth and sparta could all field their own troops, and it was cumbersome.

But couldn't an acceptable alternative to unique units be that for a certain elite unit - maybe armoured hoplite or sacred band types - to be named, rather as the first cohorts are?

I know this requires regions to have certain work put into them, and if it requires every region to have extra coding, it could be too much, but if only some regions need to have that extra work it could be a solution?

This was discussed about an year or so ago, when DBH wondered wheter to make named legions or sacred bands. you can search for the thread. The problem is that the naming system is hard coded and in the name always exist "legio".... So alas this doesn't work well for other units.

An interesting idea, albeit ahistorical, would be to make some named legions for the seleucids. It could be something like legio syria, makedonia and so on. Not sure if it's worthy though.

Would like to propose the introduction of heavy cavalry archers to Bactria. I mean even the seleucids get those great medians, why not something simillar to Baktria? On that note - making syrian heavy cavalry from Alex an AOR unit like the syrian archers would be great.

That would be pretty cool, give Baktria a bit of an edge when facing TSE's vastly more diverse and overall better roster (at least with those Medians + Syrians).

I think Thrace has way too few units even with the ability to equip hoplites so I purpose a heavy thracian unit. Basically like a Thracian berserker but instead of a club with a spike in it they would have a falx and a breastplate or chainmail.

Also it would be cool if all the Barbarian generals went on foot.

So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show."

Yeah basically like a mix between a Thracian Thorakitai and a German Berserker.

Here's a look at some possible Neuragic units.

The skirmishers use the same model as Roman Velites. I figured that was suitable because the only description we have refers to them as "furred". The swordsmen use the same model as Iberian Ambarkaro (which I have updated a little). I figured that was a reasonable fit given all the figurines showing them with horned helmets.

They would have similar stats to Velites and Scutarii, and be recruitable by most factions, apart from the Romans.

Interesting looking units - only recruitable in Sardinia?
