I will be glad to help you out in this one, when I get home this night I hope . Also try contacting Almogaver, he also had a nice list or Catalan/Aragonese names.

Only 38 first names, at least we would like three times that. Good start though.

Can always flesh our the surnames by getting a map of Aragon and picking the main 50 towns and add a de before it.

Or I could fill it with modern catalan names...but I'm not sure if that would fit what you want...:hmmm:

Anyways i'll try searching for more medieval names and i'll post the ones I find new as I prefer historical accuracy

Added new names from the web page you gave me. Many thanks! The ones in BOLD. They are from the 15th century, the late middle ages, but it is possible they were also used in previous centuries. I've tried to search for more names, but the pages I run across don't quite distinguish surnames from given names and then doubt arises in my head. I will see what I can do with those names and try to know which ones were used as names and which ones were used as surnames. Also note that sometimes they were used as both names and surnames, for further confusion!

Ramiro was king of the Kingdom of Aragon Shaba, not of the Crown (Union of County of Barcelona and Kingdom of Aragon). Anyway yes I do realize that all the names posted there are of Catalan origin or the catalan way of writing them. I guess I could search for some aragonese names too since the Crown of Aragon was made up of Catalonia and Aragon. If anyone knows and wants to add Aragonese names please do so! Post some of them and I will add them! I'll start by adding Ramiro but I have a doubt here.

Ramiro or Ramir??? Ramiro to my ear is the castilian-like way of naming it and Ramir is the catalan way of naming it. Any aragonese that knows of the aragonese way of naming it? Is it Ramiro like the castilian way or is it Ramir like the catalan way?

    au va! no seas pinxo.

Just exactly what does the title say? Does it say Names for "Union of County of Barcelona and Kingdom of Aragon"? No, it says ARAGONESE names. Don't pretend to find fault where there isn't any. I am just trying to help finneys.
And the Aragonse for Ramiro isRemiro.

Now don't get angry, a mixture of Catalan and Aragonese names would be perfect.

I don't know if you've noticed but I've posted quite a long names list (mixture of catalan and aragonese names) 3 posts above to complete those you already have (especially bynames and surnames)

    Shaba

I'm not being pinxo . I'm just being historically correct. It says Aragonese names just as like it could say Catalan names. The fact is that the thread relates to the Crown of Aragon and that includes both Aragon and Catalonia. Ramiro was never King of the Crown of Aragon. Alfons I was the fisrt king, son of Ramon Berenguer (Count of Barcelona) and Petronila of Aragon (the daughter or Ramiro) So what I would do is post names both of Aragonese and Catalan origin.

The problem is I don't know any aragonese names or how they are written/pronounced in aragonese. What I ask here is all the help I can get. In this matter thnks for pointing out the aragonese naming: Remiro!

    Almogaver

Nice list, its also cool youv'e added Aragonese names also . Now I dont know what finneys wants to do and how to merge both your list and mine. Should I add all the names missing in my list or should you add all the missing ones to yours'??

    I dunno

Well, imho, both name lists should complement each other; as simple as that. Although I'm not sure about De Foix, De Bearn (occitan) De Flor, De Lluria (specific generals who fought for the Crown but with no catalan nor aragonese ascendancy)

I totally agree with you almogaver! I will merge your list into mines so we have a super list!

Finneys: On thr first post you can add Almogaver as an author .

    About the bynames:

De Foix: Hmm just read in wikipedia it was independent untill the Kingdom of France took over it. Ill eliminate it .
De Bearn: Ye this one I must admit I cant remember where I got it from. As you say it is occitan. We must remember though that in the early stages the Crown had possesions in southern France.(Provence, Montpelier). Now I have no idea if Bearn was actually a possesion of the Crown of Aragon. I will delete it as I have no clue and Im too lazy to go fing it for myself .
De Lluria: As you say a generals name who fought for the Crown, and thats actually the only reason I guess it is there. Well as you know also the "LL" is the catalan adoption of the L, so it sounded catalan to me and thats just the reason it was there. I dont know if its ok to take it or not for as I say it was the surname of a very famous general.
