    Default Elder scrolls: Oblivion

The game has one of the biggest threads in the site and has been running for 15 months:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=46481

Also the former ogres.net site has pretty much died:

    http://www.obliviondown.com/

my suggestion is for imb to buy the site (it would be very cheap), then for the domain to be used to redirect people to the forum at the Paradox site, the forum skin and front page could be stored some were incase there was enough interest in the future to setup a elder scrolls site.

There is a obvous interest in the game from within TWC and purchasing and deleteing the site (obvously are intent to do this would have to be made clear) would then mean that when people tried to go on the oblivion down forum instead of finding dead forum they would be redirected to Paradox's Elder scrolls oblivion and hopefuly be tempted to register.

    What do people think?

We already own ALL of the former ON sites, including Oblivion Down, AFAIK.

I don't think its a bad idea, actually, to redirect the old ON sites. However, I am under the impression that we are currently giving away the sites to interested community members who wish to keep them running and waiting until they can find their own servers. I am not sure what the current status is on OD in particular, but point Sim in this direction and he can tell you specifics.

Oblivion would be good, I would like to see Neverwinter Nights and the associated games with that as well.

    Both have large modding communities.

As far as I know that isnt the case - a couple of the sites are now owned by other networks and the star wars site has closed completly - also the cost of purchasing the entire network would have been alot more than buying just TWC.

If imb does own oblivion down then I dont think its members would care much if the site was closed and its domain used to redirect people to a oblivion forum at the Paradox site, as a active forum at the Paradox site is better than a dead oblivion down.

If he doesn't own it (which I believe is the case), then the site would be very cheap to purchase and my suggestion could be implemented.

Ignoring the oblivion down suggestion does anyone have any objections to setting up a elder scrolls oblivion forum at the Paradox site?

Of course we need to hear what imb39 thinks.

I pmed imb39 and he comfirmed what I thought - he only owns TWC and he doesnt know who owns oblivion down.

Looking at the site it appears to be owned by a member of the site who is trying to get people to participate in its running - who exactly owns It I dont know and due to the fact that the forum is virtually dead it will be difficult to find out.

He didn't comment on whether or not he would pay for the site but due to the expected low price of it I suspect that he will put some kind of offer in if the Paraodox site is set up and has a oblivion down forum.

obviously the forum would receive allot of traffic without purchasing oblivion down but it would be good to take its members as well.

Bethesda is making Fallout 3 and probably will release a future elder scrolls.

I do agree with you though, it is more of a "fever". It has no multiplayer and doesn't have the "module" ability that Neverwinter Nights does so it really will only live so long as expansions are released.

I personally think if we go with some kind of RPG it should be a mmo or Neverwinter Nights 2 as they have a more far lasting online community.

Perhaps purchase Oblivion Downs and retool it for Bethesda software packages.

Did a check of top selling games in the US and Obilvion is in the top 10.

If there is an oblivion site i think it shouldn't just limit itself to that game as well, it should also discuss Fallout 3 and any futuer Elder Scrolls titles.

Pretty much any major RPG from Bethesda. However it could still be called "Oblivion Down"

How active was that site to begin with, i'm curious. We could get people who were there originally, maybe if we can get some mailing list from forum registrations?

IIRC KScott and Fab were both admins, we could ask them about it, if they know anything.

BTW, concerning the TWC ownership of the other ON sites.

I was wrong initially, TWC does not own the sites, as Elrond said and confirmed. What happened was, Eric (Ogre) handed Ian the entire server, and when Sim or Ian asked about the other sites which were hosted on the server, Eric said they could delete them. Simetrical went around to all the sites and asked whether anyone wanted them. I know Gamer's Daily was transferred to someone, and ZooAdmin I am pretty sure is on their own now. Here is the thread about it on Oblivion Down (the Gamer's Daily site closed down, so the thread isn't there anymore).

    http://www.obliviondown.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=1170

I wouldn't see an issue with using the site to set up a new affiliate/satellite site as we are planning. A whois on the domains says Eric still owns it, but it also says that for TWC and we own the domain (AFAIK), so I'm not sure. Even though we didn't buy the site outright, I don't think there is any legal issue with using the database and skins and whatnot (seeing as it was going to be thrown out altogether (really nice treatment of your members, Eric!), and then given away for free (as long as the person had hosting and a vB license).
