Roma Surrectum Build 1.10a (includes all current patches and hotfixes) is a full conversion of RTW built to run on RTW version 1.5. (Barbarian Invasion is not necessary for this mod to work, but can be present). To install Roma Surrectum you need:
OPTION 1 - DO NOT HAVE RS INSTALLED YET
a. Original install of Rome Total War
b. Patch RTW to v1.3 and then v1.5)
c. Install RS - Full Install 1.10a.exe into the ‘Rome - Total War’ folder (NOT THE DATA FOLDER)
http://files.filefront.com/RS___Full.../fileinfo.html

OPTION 2 - ALREADY HAVE ROMASURRECTUMVER1 OR PATCH7 OR PATCH 8 (but not the above install)
a. Install RS - Patch 1.10a into the 'Rome - Total War' folder (NOT THE DATA FOLDER)
http://files.filefront.com/RS___Full.../fileinfo.html
(We recommend you use IE to download from filefront as Firefox occasionally has had problems doing so)
Open 'Preferrences.txt' in your RTW folder and set 'AUTO_SAVE:FALSE'. This will disable the buggy RTW Autosave feature, so be sure and save you campaign occasionally, especially before an important battle, or after playing for a long time.
You can also add -nm -show_err to the end of 'RomeTW.exe' in your shortcut target. It should look like this:
(RTW)\RomeTW.exe -nm -show_err
If you install this mod into a RTW-BI installation, BI will not longer work correctly. You can run this mod with the BI switch, but because BI shares a number of files with RTW, this mod breaks BI.
ROMA SURRECTUM FEATURES:
1. Four new factions, Syracuse, Epirus, Kingdom of Cimmerian Bosporan, Kingdom of the Attalids(Pergamum).
2. All factions reskinned (with a few isolated exceptions), using skins by Ferres\Godzilla and Webbird, and a number of others. Many new unit cards and others a work in process.
3. New strat map characters by Riczu, and some altered by myself.
4. Imperial Campaign using Mundus Magnus3 map, Provincial campaign using IceTorque/Webbird map.
5. SkyMod by Archer
6. Prometheus Grass Mod and Roman\Greek Strat city models by Prometheus
7. SigniferOne Animations
8. Portions of Bugfixer v3.36, by Player1
9. Portions of Borsook’s Enhancements v2.24
10.All BI buildings added for Barbarians
11.Many new buildings in tech _tree
12.Recruitable generals
13.All new loading screens by 'Tone'.
14.AOR recruitment system that limits factions to a basic area of historical influence.
15.Some units available to many factions that are at least the equal of Roman Legionaries.
16.Roman ‘Governors, Pro-Consuls, and Prefects’…pseudo-generals with infantry guards who will be governors and regional leaders, allowing Generals to fight, not baby-sit towns.
17.Three Republican Legions: I & II, and one that can only be recruited in Rome. Republican Legion I recruitable only in Italy, 'II' outside Italy.
18. Various 'levels' of reforms when the Marian Reforms do occur, including:
a) Very Early Republican Legionaries, which replace the maniples (hastati, principe and triarii) with 'cohorts' at Army barracks level. First appearance of the Legion Eagle. These are pre-marian units, and will disappear after Marian Reforms occur.
b) 13 numbered and named 'Consular Legions' recruitable in AOR regions...available in Army Barracks+ after reforms
c) 22 numbered and named 'Imperial Legions' recruitable in AOR regions...available in Roman Army Base, which must be built in ten different AOR areas before they can be recruited. (See maps in ~\data\important_stuff folder)
Each of these Legions has its full name and known titles, a historical banner (where known, otherwise a theoretical one) , in game history, 1st cohort, officer, Legionary Eagle, and they all use a unique texture. Some Legions also use historical 'Eastern and Assault' textures. The legions of Roma Surrectum are as follows:
Legio I Germanica
Legio II Augusta
Legio III Gallica
Legio III Augustica
Legio V Alaudae
Legio VI Ferrata
Legio VII Claudia Pia Fidelis
Legio VIII Augusta
Legio IX Hispana
Legio X Gemina Pia
Legio XI Claudia Pia Fidelis
Legio XIII Gemina
Legio XXII Deiotariana
Imperial Legions:
Legio I Italica
Legio I Minervia Pia Fidelis
Legio I Adiutrix
Legio II Adiutrix Pia Fidelis
Legio II Traiana Fortis
Legio III Cyrenaica
Legio III Italica
Legio IV Flavia Felix
Legio IV Scythica
Legio V Macedonica
Legio VI Victrix Pia Fidelis
Legio VII Gemina
Legio X Fretensis
Legio XII Fulminata
Legio XIV Gemina Martia Victrix
Legio XV Primigenia
Legio XV Apollinaris
Legio XVI Flavia Firma
Legio XX Valeria Victrix
Legio XXI Rapax (Predator)
Legio XXII Primigenia
Legio XXX Ulpia Victrix
19.The ‘Legio Praetoriani’…the Praetorian Legion, which can only be recruited in the ‘Castra Praetorium’ in Rome. Historically, there were two ‘Praetorian Prefects’ who commanded these Legions, and they also can be recruited here, but only after the Marian Reforms. Likewise, Praetorian Cavalry.
20.Altered strat interfaces for all cultures except Carthage
21.New symbols and banners for all factions.
22.Heavily rewritten in-game text files (with more historical work in progress).
23.Barbarians can build stone walls.
24.Character movements have been greatly increased on the strat map to help solve ‘stuck army’ problems and improve AI use of it's Navy.
25.New ‘battle system’ thanks to the contributions of Sinuhet’s 7.0 formations (modified for this mod with his permission), Darth’s recent EDU settings discoveries, and Repman’s sharing of his new close/loose formations settings. Battles are longer, harder and more fun. The AI is much smarter than before.
26.Nightbattles included.
27.Reskinned Egypt and gave them new units to reflect their more ‘greek’ nature at this time in history (still a WIP changing them over)
28.New City strat models for Romans and Greeks...thanks to Prometheus.
29.Heavily reworked economy and bonuses...should be good happiness and little squalor, but less money.
30.Unit costs doubled...in cases tripled, building times and costs much higher.
31."0" turn recruitment for most units except ships, and a few others, which take one turn.
32.Rewritten Greek and Roman Temple descriptions by 'Tyr' (others in progress), and their temples distributed more historically.
33.New 'Kingdoms & Tribes' faction that is essentially an AOR controlled huge Free Peoples 'entity'. They are a real faction. They act like many small individual factions because their regions are widely dispersed. They recruit units only from the regions they start with, and each regional 'Little faction' recruits units that fit the cultural area they are in.
34.'Free People' faction and 'Kingdoms & Tribes' factions merged together on strat map....so they all look like one 'Slave' faction, but attack you and each other, display 4-5 different banners on the map, and many different ones in battles depending on the cultural areas.
35.Beautiful new clouds and light settings by 'Tone'!
36.A number of changes made to the IceTorque/Webbird map by 'Northern Ranger', mainly to the Greek areas and Sicily to make them more historical and more playable.
37.The main AOR's of Roma Surrectum are as follows:
(See ~\data\_IMPORTANT STUFF for maps and other info)
Home- Romans
Greek- Greek_Cities, Macedon, Romans
Central- Central European AOR for Dacia

Est- Restricts Kingdoms & Tribes to an eastern culture region
Rom- Restricts Kingdoms & Tribes to an Italian culture region
Warships-Determines where a major harbor can be built and the largest warships.
These AORs are also used to control where the 'Slave' faction can build units.
42. New Buildings in Roma Surrectum (besides BI additons for Barbarians) include:
Pharos Lighthouse in Egypt...can be built in Egypt by them or Romans or Greeks
Great Altar to Zeus in Pergamum.....can only be built by Pergamum
Columns and Arches for Romans.......can only be built by Romans
Great Wall of Syracuse..........can only be built by Syracuse

So if you're involved with Roma Surrecetum, a Roma Surrectum player, or just want a darn good sig, show your support for the mod by using one of those! And remember to keep checking here; there may only be three at the moment - but there is more to come.
For any who dont know how to put it in your sig, simply copy the above link for whatever picture you want, put it in your sig, adding at the end. That should work fine.
And thankyou once again Fallen.Soldier!

The purpose of this thread will be to inform the prospective player of Roma Surrectum about the recruitment and AOR system in this mod. It will be updated regularly as I get the information compiled...so check here often.
Romans:
There are effectively Five Phases that lead up to being able to recruit the Imperial Legions of Rome, and much has changed in Patch 8, so read carefully:
First Phase:
The Roman Republican Legion, consisting of Hastati, Principe, Triarii and support units is the 1st phase of the Roman Army. There are 3 Legions, of which you can recruit as many as you want:
Republican Legion I....can only be built in Rome, and symbolizes the Senate.
Republican Legion II can be recruited anywhere in Italy, up to a line where Mediolanium and Patavium are (but not in those regions).
Republican Legion III can be recruited outside Italy only, and only in the designated Roman military AORs you'll see below.
(You will be able to recruit Velites, Light Cavalry and Town Watch everywhere.)
Second Phase:
Republican Legion I VE- recruitable in Italy only
Republican Legion II VE- recruitable in all AOR Military Bases outside Italy.
As you build up your regions and you build an 'Urban Barracks' in them, you'll start seeing the 'Very Early Legionaries'.
They are a 'transitional unit' between the old Hastati, principe, triarii legions and the later named Legions. This unit is basically a slighly upgraded Principe. He is a 'Legionary', and this Legion has a 1st cohort and Eagle, but they lack some of the discipline and training of those who would follow them. They cannot form the testudo. This is a pre-marian reforms unit, so when the Marian Reforms occur, these and all remaining Hastati, Principe, etc. units will disappear from the recruitment ques. (The soldiers you have in the field, of course, will remain.) There is no 'House Rule' on these, except you should only have one 1st Cohort per army.
Third Phase:
When the Marian Reforms occur, the first of Rome's named and numbered Legions will appear in any of the regions you control that are listed below. These first Legions, of which there are 13, could also be called 'Consular Legions'. They were the paid army of Rome, and recruited when Rome was still a Republic. These can only be recruited and retrained in the specified areas. However, when the Marian Reforms occur, all pre-Marian Roman units will disappear from the ques and be replaced with various 'Auxilia' units. Auxilia, Light Auxilia, Archers and varius light Cavalry will be available everywhere to recruit. The 'House Rule is ONE EACH of these Legions. (I'll explain later what a Legion is)
Fourth Phase:
The Imperial Legions, of which there are 22, will appear in the same ten AOR Bases when you build an 'Urban Barracks'. At this point, all the Legions will be available IF you have a Royal Barracks in each region. The 'House Rule is ONE EACH of these Legions.
Fifth Phase:
The Praetorian Legion becomes available in Rome only once you've built the 'Castra Praetorium' in Rome. Praetorian Cavalry will also appear there, and the Praetorian Prefect. The 'House Rule' is TWO of these Legions.
Early, Consular legions:

Latium, Rome - Praetorian Legion

These ten bases will be where all the newest military equipment is available as well; scorpions, repeating ballistas, heavy onagers…the most advanced cavalry such as Legionary cavalry, and several AOR restricted cultural cavalry units like Roman Cataphracts and Roman Gothic Cavalry…the most advanced archers and supporting troops.
For those of you who have asked...What is a Roman Legion?
A Legion is an entire Roman Army. It typically consisted of a General, several Cavalry units, one 1st cohort, 9 cohorts, and supporting units such as spear auxilia, auxilia troops, archers, etc.
My own Legion would consist of:
1- General
2- Legionary Cavalry units (and maybe a unit of javelin cavalry)
2- archer units
4- Auxilia units (various kinds)
1- 1st Cohort (which carries the Eagle)
9- Cohorts
Of course, it doesn't have to be that many units of each, but that's roughly what the Roman's had.
YOU CAN TELL IF A LEGION CAN BE RECRUITED IN A REGION BY RIGHT CLICKING THE REGION TO SEE THE NAME. IF IT HAS THIS (L) AFTER THE NAME
A LEGION CAN BE RECRUITED THERE. I HAD TO REMOVE THE LITTLE SHIELDS IN ORDER TO HAVE THE TOWNS ON THE MAP.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Britons.....FREE PEOPLE
You actually can't SEE the Britons faction anymore because they are merged into the 'slave' faction....however, they do have different strat banners. Their AOR is much different than any other faction, because it's 'culture AND region specific'. In otherwords, if they own a region at the beginning of the campaign in Northern Europe, the AOR specifically limits them to building Barbarian units, and ONLY in that region. If they do take a another adjacent region, they can build nothing in it at all. Likewise, Greek areas, Eastern, etc. are all controlled in the same way.
They actually could be a playable faction...but in the future I want to give them better skins and unit cards. Right now they're basically like the slaves for the most part.
The object of this AOR for Briton is to prevent them from using their region and monetary might to overwhelm all the other factions. Their purpose as an AI faction is just to cause trouble and confusion, and make things harder for all concerned.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
All factions listed below can now build their lower end units, and some medium type units, everywhere.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Gallia and Germanic Tribes
Gallia, like all the barbarian cultures in RS, is limited to an area of influence AOR. They can build ALL their units in Britian, Germany, and Gaul....roughly over to about north of Italy (I'll provide a map later). They can also build all their units in the 'military base' AORs (legio1-14), and in any city that was a 'capitol' at the campaign's start. The capitol 'hidden_resource' includes each faction's capitol town\city, and a number of other cities of 'historical importance'. ALL factions can use these to build almost all their units...with a few very obvious exceptions...Syrian Archers, Elephants, Nubian Spearmen, Siclian Infantry, etc. are limited to a geographical area.
Lower end units available everywhere.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Iberia
Spanish recruitment is essentially limited to Spain and the Military Bases and capitols. Lower end units available everywhere.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Dacia
Dacia is limited to it's starting territories and a few surrounding them, military bases and capitols. Lower end units available everywhere.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Scythia
Scythia is limited to what would be roughly modern-day Russia, military bases and capitols. Lower end units available everywhere.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Macedon and Greek
These two factions are limited to a 'greek' hidden_resource that stretches from Illyria to around Armenia in modern-day Turkey, and from Dacia down to Sparta. Rhodes, Crete, Sicily, one province in Spain and Gaul.....in otherwords, their historical areas of influence. They can also recruit all their units in military bases and capitals. Lower end units available everywhere.
Parthia, Seleucid, Armenia, Pontus and Pergamum
These factions use an AOR called 'arab'. It's a big chunk of the eastern part of the map. The AOR mainly limits the building of higher end 'elite type' units. Lower end units available everywhere.
Carthage and Egypt
These factions are limited by an AOR called 'south'. They can build anything they want anywhere in Africa, and a few selected regions they started with. Lower end units available everywhere.
Syracuse and Bosporan
Syracuse can build anything in Sicily, on any Mediterrainean island, in capitols, in any 'greek' AOR region and military base AOR's. Some lower end units are available everywhere. Same goes for Bosporan.....except a few of their units are available in the 'central' AOR.

The reforms in RS are as such:

To start you play with the 'manipular' Roman Legions consisting of 'Hastati, Principe, and Triarii'.
The Polybian Reforms are symbolized by the appearance of the Very Early Legions, at which point, somehwere around\during the 2nd Punic War, Rome started 'morphing' into 'cohort' formation Legions.
When you build the highest level barracks in Italy, from Venetia\Mediolanum down to the toe in those regions, the 'Marian' reforms occur, and you are able to recruit the first of the named and numbered 'Caesarian' Legions.
Finally, the old RTW "Marian Reforms' was rewritten to be the Imperial Reforms....or one might say, 'Augustine'. At this point, all the old Roman units disappear from cues, the Roman Auxilia and Ala become available, and the Imperial Legions.

Is this mod 'mod-foldered', or will it ever be:

I know this question of mod foldering has come up countless times, and I have a few good reasons (personal) for not wanting to do it.

One of them is that I want to be concerned about ONE and only ONE thing...RS1.5 or RS2 working as they should. I don't want to be asked, bothered with, confronted with, or otherwise irritated with questions and\or problems concerning 'Mod XXX' doesn't work anymore now: "because I installed your mod foldered mod". Our team is small, there's only a couple of us who have any experience with troubleshooting, and it is just too much work to introduce additional 'problems'....which is exactly what happens when you start to be concerned about whether any version of RS is going to break anything else. I don't care. RS was and is written to be as 'perfect' as it can be, with as few problems as humanly possible given the engine it runs on.

Secondly, I don't want to. I gladly invite anyone who wishes to do it to go right ahead and do it...and support it themselves. I know it CAN be done....I am just not going to do it.

If people don't have enough room on a drive, it takes only a few minutes to burn a whole RTW directory to a DVD. An 8GB USB 'drive' costs ten bucks American (or less) and you could put TWO of them on there. There's just too many things nowadays that people can do if they REALLY want a mod.
