    The Character Names Project's goal is to overhaul all of MTW2's character names lists so that they are as historically correct as possible. A secondary goal is to increase the number of names in each list, therefore creating a more diverse character (specifically family) tree in a MTW2 campaign. This is being done to address the problem of vanilla MTW2 having names lists which contained errors of all varieties, and the problem that they contained too few names.     What you will see
    :

    1.) Authentic period names (with proper spellings and accents, etc.)
    2.) More diversity amongst names (the modified lists are larger than the vanilla lists)
    3.) All families will start the game with surnames/bynames
    4.) Popes will have proper regnal names
    5.) 18 factions with entirely new character names lists
    6.) Factions titles, ie. King and Prince, in native languages and grammar
    7.) Common regal names will appear more often for their factions

    Please post any feedback, bug reports and conflicts with other mods in this thread. The most likely error you could encounter is a blank name. If you find a character with a blank name, report what faction this occurred with below. If you have suggestions for improving the character names of a faction, please post them in the specific thread for that faction here.

    The following attachment translates the old titles into the new, for those that are confused about what is what. Also the names.txt and expanded.txt for the modders.

    Edit:

    Faction names were not correct for in version 3.00 for Stainless Steel 3.2. If you have already installed version 3.00 for SS 3.2, simply overwrite the expanded.txt.strings in SS/data/text with the one in newSSexpanded.zip, to be found in the attachment below.

    It's save game compatible, no problem continuing with your old game, faction names will be fixed, and your version will be the same as v3.01 for SS 3.2.

    Great work Finneys...
    A quick question, how can I use this new version, when I have DLV installed? Do you think it would work to just overwrite with the new Vanilla version or is there some specific files I "Just" should overwrite?

    I have never played DLV.

    If they have changed the descr_strat.txt at all, you need to combine them yourself, ie. add the starting character names from the CNP descr_strat to the DLV descr_strat.

    If they have added new factions, you need to add the new factions' namelists to descr_names and names.txt. And if you use the expanded.txt, you have to combine that too.

    Default Installing CNP3.0 in current campaign

    I currently have SS installed and the previous version of CNP. If I install 3.0, will it affect my current byzantine campaign or will I have to start a new game to see any effects?

    some of your names will probably switch to the project's name instead, so you might not recognize some characters

    Some people had problems with the ZIP file I used, so I changed it to a RAR file, should be okay now.

    deRougemont never put them in I think?

    I will upload them to the opening post, so people don't get too confused when they download the mod.

    Not at first. Some people asked for the non-string version of that file, and he began to add it. He named it "BACKUP_names.txt".

    There is a bug in the family tree of the Moors, where the faction heir and his brother lack their surnames al-Andalusi, which leads to a script error.

    I fixed that, maybe I uploaded an old version.

    I will upload a v3.01 then during the day.

    Edit: Just downloaded those two files, and al-Andalusi is right for both, the sons have it? It was a problem, but I fixed it before I uploaded anything.

    Uhm, is there also an error in the vanilla version? :hmmm:

    I copied all relevant files and text areas in my personal mod but the campaign doesn't start. V2.00 was all fine but 3.00 doesn't start and I checked the descr_strat now 3 times from top to bottom

    Nothing, there are only old entries. Game returns to main menu when I want to start a new campaign. I'll try it again from scratch tomorrow. Perhaps I made really a mistake and didn't recognize it.
