modding question (newbie)

hi all, i'm new and want to mod my game

i browsed these forums and it's full of interesting stuff. i've read most how to's and gave it a shot

i read somewhere on these forums to have the unpacker unpack the files in a backup folder. i rightclicked on the unpackall batch and edited in the verbosity thing line a backup just as described. now i (probably) have to save that file, but how should i save it?? i can't just save it as a text file can i?

further information: it's on my laptop, windows vista (utter crap OS), i already installed 1.2 patch a few weeeks ago. i meet the system requirements and enjoy the game
