I found them too pricey, and combination of dismounted conquistadores, templars/hospitallers + noble spearmen/papal guards are pretty much owns all other infantries.

I used them early game...
How did you manage to get them in early game as they are produced from the second-to-last barracks in a castle?!
Oh, and also...how did you afford them?!
I don't recuit them since I can get them free from missions. Yeah! they're expensive to maintain and I usually spread them one to each castle and at the most two. By maintaining unit stacks to just 15 or 16 per settlement, my upkeep is not too strenuous in the long run.
Btw, they are excellent defenders if used against tiring enemies even aginst their elites. They are also great replacements for the earlier dismounted templar knights.

replacement, lol yeah, a superior 'replacement'; as I said before, a conquisstadores/hospitaller is much better price/performance ratio than those gold plated elites....They are also great replacements for the earlier dismounted templar knights.
Before I ditched my old vh/vh KT campaign, I had two armies with ten templar guards each, and more in the works, just because I could. Money was tight for a long time until you pass the hump (holding former Egypt, Seljuk and Byzantine lands) and it's all gravy, and utterly boring. But they sure look goldy and pretty.
What I've said was replacement for Templar Knights, not what you have suggested. And I clearly said for defending purposes at the last straw. The rest are up to you to digest if you really read carefully You are only laughing at your foolishness . No offence! Your Mejesty. Afterall, you are entitled to your own opinions.

do you actually have any idea what's make templars better than hospitallers?
see? templars are actually useless due to their higher recruitment unit, and there are much bigger chances you'll get hospitallers guilds than templars', with Order of Knights Templar you'll 99% got hospitallers. Heck even the mounted hospitallers are better than templars'.Code:type Dismounted Knights Templar dictionary Dismounted_Knights_Templar ; Dismounted Knights Templar category infantry class heavy voice_type Heavy banner faction main_infantry banner unit templars soldier Dismounted_Feudal_Knights, 48, 0, 1 attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, very_hardy, can_withdraw, free_upkeep_unit formation 1.2, 1.2, 2.4, 2.4, 3, square stat_health 1, 0 stat_pri 14, 3, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_blade, piercing, sword, 0, 1 ;stat_pri_ex 0, 0, 0 stat_pri_attr no stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, no, melee_simple, blunt, none, 0, 1 ;stat_sec_ex 0, 0, 0 stat_sec_attr no stat_pri_armour 8, 7, 6, metal ;stat_armour_ex 7, 8, 0, 0, 7, 6, 6, metal stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh stat_heat 5 stat_ground 1, -2, 3, 2 stat_mental 13, normal, highly_trained stat_charge_dist 30 stat_fire_delay 0 stat_food 60, 300 stat_cost 1, 780, 225, 90, 70, 780, 4, 150 armour_ug_levels 3, 4, 5 armour_ug_models Dismounted_Knights_Templar, Dismounted_Knights_Templar_ug1, Dismounted_Knights_Templar_ug2 ownership knights_templar ;unit_info 14, 0, 21 type Dismounted Knights Hospitaller dictionary Dismounted_Knights_Hospitaller ; Dismounted Knights Hospitaller category infantry class heavy voice_type Heavy banner faction main_infantry banner unit hospitaller soldier Dismounted_Feudal_Knights, 48, 0, 1 attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, very_hardy, can_withdraw, free_upkeep_unit formation 1.2, 1.2, 2.4, 2.4, 3, square stat_health 1, 0 stat_pri 14, 3, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_blade, piercing, sword, 0, 1 ;stat_pri_ex 0, 0, 0 stat_pri_attr no stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, no, melee_simple, blunt, none, 0, 1 ;stat_sec_ex 0, 0, 0 stat_sec_attr no stat_pri_armour 8, 7, 6, metal ;stat_armour_ex 7, 8, 9, 0, 7, 6, 6, metal stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh stat_heat 5 stat_ground 1, -2, 3, 2 stat_mental 13, normal, highly_trained stat_charge_dist 30 stat_fire_delay 0 stat_food 60, 300 stat_cost 1, 710, 225, 90, 70, 710, 4, 150 armour_ug_levels 3, 4, 5 armour_ug_models Dismounted_Knights_Hospitaller, Dismounted_Knights_Hospitaller_ug1, Dismounted_Knights_Hospitaller_ug2 ownership england, scotland, france, denmark, milan, venice, papal_states, sicily, poland, hungary, knights_templar ;unit_info 14, 0, 21
templar = useless.
My bad, Thought you were talking about Templar Spearmen. I usually have 2-3 Units of Templar Guard in my army. But I have built up a really good economy...I dont even worry about money anymore. Put it this way, I've got full construction queues, 6 Elite Standing Armies, and never cheated once
when you say you can't recruit the guards? that's rediculous, your doing something wrong, your not managing your money well enough i guess, recruit 1 in like 2 turns? or stop building whatever your building. That's MTW right there. You can't have everything, you can only have one, either SUPERIOR economic or DOMINATE army. unless you cheat, or you can only develop one at a time
well i make them just because ,,they are the best" I love to have all elite armies, alltho i know that 2 half elite armies would be better than 1 pure elite.
