    The Legions of Constantium work relatively CTD free for me , played 80 Turns and only had one random CTD in round 56.
    It's just the unbalanced upkeep/ unit costs.

    Can't speak of other factions of...

    You could use the game 'Ale Jacta Est' as an inspiration. It includes this very scenario in all it's historical detail....

    I'm just a hobby historian, but from what I know sometime around the early principate, around the time the first segmentatas made their way into the legions. Very late Augustus, early Tiberius.
