Re: How did pikemen hold their pikes?

it doesn't matter. You arm would suffer a lot of pain even against walking horse.. Your body is not strong enough to stop 500kg weight moving even at slow speed.. it would dislocate your shoulder at...

Re: How did pikemen hold their pikes?

posture on the picture is actually offensive one.. it is fixing the pike so it uses whole momentum of body.. defensive use would accommodate pike being secured against ground at some angle.. believe...
  4. Re: Are the hoplites spears too short in Rome II Total War?

no. not really. You need to realize basic rules of physics - rule of action and reaction. Also you need to keep in mind basic rules of kinetic and statics. You cannot add speed into thrust this way....

  6. Re: Are the hoplites spears too short in Rome II Total War?

Actually, Sauroter had one huge reason to be there... it added a lot of kinetic energy to the thrust, while it balanced the spear for rear grip. Typical sauroter was around 350g heavy, (heavier...

early sarrisas were not that long.. they were just a bit longer than typical Dory at the time.. Sarrisas were lengthened during Sucessor period, but Alexander actually preferred a bit shorter more...
  8. Re: Rome II Total Realism - Beta Feedback and Suggestions

Its not just training, but you also need specially bred exemplars as warhorse. Napoleonic Era warhorse was much bigger and aggressive than any horse used during ancient times. yet, even with such...

Re: Blobbing with patch 14 ??

my personal guess is, that during development, found some issue with sapping and they decided to cut it out... there are lines in db files which suggest sapping was supposed to be in game...
  13. Re: Rome II Total Realism - Beta Feedback and Suggestions

true, but still. even during Napoleonic wars, it was a common practice to get any horse you could get... horses are fragile, usually they wont survive harsher conditions. during wars, there was...
  14. Re: Technological advantage in pre-modern warfare, overrated and often imagined.

Minden example was mentioned because of the way British soldiers repelled french cavalry with firepower. But of course, more important factor was morale of British infantry during that battle.. if...
  15. Re: Are the hoplites spears too short in Rome II Total War?

because those are not spears but javelins... you need to check the whole picture, not just fragments.. on far left, you can see two spears/javelins types. One longer with silver head, and second...
  16. Re: Rome II Total Realism - Beta Feedback and Suggestions

Re: Blobbing with patch 14 ??

yes, as i said, it improved melee infantry in formed attack, but it didnt fixed pikemen.
  18. Re: Rome II Total Realism - Beta Feedback and Suggestions

Theoretically, it is possible to give spearmen trait to scare off cavalry, while cavalry can get the scare off infantry.. if I'm not mistaken both these options are in. yet it will require some...
  19. Re: Rome II Total Realism - Beta Feedback and Suggestions

regarding morale, it will be severely tweaked in next version. I spend some time testing the behavior with patch14beta, and i had to tune it a bit, slightly reduce certain penalties due to new bugs...
