121! My whole campaign isn't 121 years old!
I lost an entire legion because four of my cohorts, surrounding a unit of levy pikemen, couldn't beat them and let me take a city in time. Apparently I could not retreat either. Its stuff like that...
Well why can't surrounded pikemen be massacred? I can surround them in all sides with four cohorts, and Achaian elites will crush them one by one. Missiles *sniff sniff* are my only hope.
Like the legion. Spanish sword, Samnite tactics, Greek siege weapons etc. But then why do the legionaries not work as they are supposed to against phalanxes?
Yeah, but the Gallic Cataphracts take forever. The Romans never had to adapt to beat the Macedonians, Seleucids and Ptolemies. THEY managed to do so fairly easily with standard legionaries. For...
The pikemen were inferior to the legionaries in close combat. In fact, without strong cavalry support, the pikemen didn't do well versus any infantry for prolonged periods of time. So I find it...
Medium of course. Everything above that is completely unbalanced. I'm ok with praetorian cavalry being beat by Heavy spearmen, but not by levy club men.
I noticed that barbarians rout very very quickly to cavalry charges from the rear. My grand plan is to pin the enemy with my legionaries, smack up all the enemy infantry, and then annihilate the...
My slow expansion campaign:
Its the year 599 AUC, a few years after the death of the great Publius Junius Pera, hero of the Gallic, Hispanic, African, Reconquering and Defection wars. The regions of...
Dacian cavalry is so annoyingly powerful, especially the Sarmatians and Roxalani. Sure, Seleucids have better cavalry, but I'll have numbers when facing them. Here, I try to minimize causalties by...
Disgusting roman pigs could rip apart prissy Greeks. Except for Seleucids.
I usually just focus on cavalry to deal with phalanxes and enemy missiles. My typical Marian legion is 10 cohorts, including the first cohort, and 7 cavalry units, one General and two seige engines....
BTW, what is the Sacred Band of Aa? I know the Sacred Band of Astarte, but what is that doing as the Spartan generals unit? Or is that what it is called?
Slingers are my safeguard and sacrifice to prevent two ranks of legionaries from biting the dust thanks to a frontal lancer charge. Problem is that Rome doesn't get access to hoplites. With the...
Really? With that experience, they look like they could penetrate tanks. :tank:
No no no, they aren't supposed to be protected. Leaving 'em like that draws in the enemy heavy cavalry. Either...
Gold chevron slingers! My slingers can't survive two battles without being mowed down by cavalry. You could destroy an entire legion of testudos with those. Forget everything I said. I no longer want...
You'd better. That empire looks as stable as a house of cards in a tornado. :laughter:
It's an empire like this that I want to fight with the Seleucids. It would beautiful.
BTW, 7 stacks seem a little thick for that much space. I have the entire Western Mediterranean, and used two....
