Personally i use Photoshop CS2...it's a great program and from what i know has more option and "depth" than GIMP...

For photoshop you need this plugin...http://developer.nvidia.com/object/photoshop_dds_plugins.html

when you make/modify a texture save it as .dds dxt5...

to convert .texture files to .dds you...

Maybe it would eb useful a Marquee tool as in photshop ;)

It's a very nice idea...but then every mod would be the same to the others in teh graphic part...and so it would be kinda boring in my opinion...;)
