Could the Azores be added to the Atlantic?
They wouldn't "exist" until discovered.

I'm near the end of my first SS campaign - as Portugal.
I can recommend it. I doubt i'll achieve the victory conditions but should have over 40 provinces, and with a following wind should make the...
Returning to the OP
I play on normal unit size.
The frame rate crawls even during the set-up phase, even before the battle begins. The cursor gets very sticky (labels get stuck to it) and...
I have a GS/XT 6800 and I get a severe frame rate drop during siege battles if I focus on the gateway.
As soon as I pan away from the gateway the frame rate picks up again.
Seems worse than...
If you go to the ELSPA website they have a PC games sales chart on the home page:
http://www.elspa.com/
As of 30 - 05 - 2007, the chart reads:

There is the small problem of replicating a spherical object on a square map.
Or projection as Mercator would have said.

Ballisate should be OK against wooden defences and gates, but shouldn't be able to knock holes in solid stone walls.
Talking of knocking holes in walls - who are the contractors who can remove all...
maybe we need a CA advisor who can say:
"My Lord, you've ****ed up the game"
What's the opposite of ear-candy?
Take Timbuktu first.
(unless the event which allows you to sail there has occurred - and you have the right ships)
Then head west. follow the edge of the desert. Take a fair size army as you'll...
Couldn't see these in the OP.
(nb I'm using the new nVidia drivers so may be related to them?)
Playing as French (1.2 patch, m/m, no mods):
on campaign map:
Had a single unit of rebels...
Took nearly 6 hours to download the drivers (no broadband) and then I find they've been recalled!! Grrr.
ANyway looking at the nVidia forums it seemed the problems related to 5000 series and...
leave the WDM drivers alone
nTune can be left
personally I'd uninstall from the device manager CP - go to the display device, right click to get properties, go to the driver tab and uninstall...
A lot, of course, depends on which faction the human is playing.
The AI factions which do well, will usually be the ones furthest away from the human player.
So in my (1.2 patch / no mods)...
Playing 1.2 - no mods
playing as Spain, had an alliance with sicily and the pope.
For some reason the Pope and Sicily fell out, and on successive turns, Pope ex-communicated sicily, declared...
Been playing 1.2 on a spanish campaign.
Had 2 battles so far where my sicilian allies have taken an active role in battles, even though they were junior partners. In one their army made it through...
Re AI reinforcements in siege battles.
was defending castle from 2 armies, 2nd AI army was i unit of town militia. Not only did it get stuck on the red line opposite the castle, ie it didn't fight...
If you do get the great cross take care if you have it in an army that's defending a settlement. The default placing for it is in front of the main gate, with the troops behind it. And once it's...
Sapping -
in RTW you could stop a sap by firing fire arrows at the sap. Though by the time the sap caught fire it had often done its damage.
Or you attack the sappers with cavalry.
Never...
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moat
The question as to whether a big dry ditch is a moat is moot.
Just out of interest:
has anyone ever played a good naval warfare simulator for the medieval period?
Moats - used depending on climate, terrain, money, etc.
mainly used in wet climates (for obvious reasons) - unlikely to find them in deserts.
mainly used on flat terrain - if you build a castle...
soz - double post - claimed I couldn't post for another 30 seconds so I waited and then posted.
Only the original post had already gone through OK.
hmph.
Who?
Half the time I've no idea who my King is or where he is.
I tend to leave them wherever they are when they become king, and use them like any other general if need be.
FWIW I'd favour a simple "of England" or equivalent for all starting royal houses. That way it's easy to distinguish them amongst all the factions - not everyone will recognise the surnames for...
Apologies if this seems a bit dim but is there a simple way to check I'm using the list - I've installed as per instructions, game plays fine.
Only problem I'm seeing is admirals seem only to have...
Couple more points:
hope the next patch finally sorts out the KNOWN ballista / cannon tower bug - makes a big difference as to how you deploy your troops.
also hope it sorts out the KNOWN...
English peasant bowmen can be surprisingly effective on walls.
Had 2 units, one either side of a concave gateway (wooden) so early in campaign. Was attacked by a large HRE force, part infantry,...

I'm chugging away at a Spanish campaign (up to 1700 AD!).
I won't be installing any mods until after the (1.2) patch is released and all the mods have worked out what they need to change to fit in...
Bombarding human controlled settlements with artillery is one of the more sensible things the AI does.
unlike: have a spy to open the gates, so you build 1 siege tower. You push the siege tower to...
Playing a Spanish campaign.
completed the short campaign early on so continued playing.
have the new world, british isles, italy (apart from Rome), France, ibera etc.

Hi
herewith extracts from a longer .odt file I put together for a putative Wars of the Roses Mod that seems to have died.

I'd like something like the original idea.
Perhaps with a delay of so many turns for information to arrive from distant lands
for a comparison of nVidia graphics cards reference designs specs look here:

Interesting problem.
A lot depends on how much money you want to spend and whether you intend doing a major hardware upgrade in the near future.
As it stands the system isn't too bad.

Another minor glitch on the campaign map
Recruited a ship in Arguin harbour.
Ship sailed out. Got hit by a rebel boat.
Tried to return to the docks in Arguin but it can't get back in.

This may be heretical but I suspect that playing against 2 full stack besieging armies will be more than some people's hardware can cope with.
(Well that's my conclusion after having tried all the...
