You were right, they actually were breaking the siege because the army was obviously too weak to take Rome. I added a proper army with cannons and it fixed the issue.

You may check the logs, it will say what's going on.
It is not. I suggest you download and install 7zip.
Download the 9 parts, right click on the first one, zip.001 and chose "extract here".
You should get a single folder called 1518.
This mod has some mechanics not present in the original game, it’s important to know them before starting your conquest of the world!
