  1. Re: 106 regions in 11 turns! -- NEW MEDIEVAL II BLITZ RECORD

Congrats to both of you infidels.

The gameplay videos clearly show how overpowered cavalry and especially the horse archers are in vanilla M2TW.

It's a tricky thing to get realistic cavalry...
  2. Re: Viking texts suggesting spear was superior to sword in shield wall/battle

Yea, but you got to admit, it was pretty shocking to see a knife best the spear regardless:shocked:

Absolutely true, what I am fighting against is the claim that the spear is simply a superior...
  3. Re: Viking texts suggesting spear was superior to sword in shield wall/battle

The one where the man wielding a knife defeats the spear 6 - 2?

Just as I said before, in such sparrings people often judge simple touches and taps of the spear as end blows...and even with that...
  4. Re: Viking texts suggesting spear was superior to sword in shield wall/battle

Yes, they did require room because the back end of the spear shaft does not disappear into another dimension when you retract your thrust.
It's a long wooden shaft with a metal pointy end...it...

    Hello I am double post.
    I am a mistake.

  6. Re: Coolest/funniest thing to ever happen to you in medieval 2?

    When playing Third Age Total War(Mos) three years ago;

I got into a siege against the Wild men to the south playing as Eriador/Arnor. I had no troops to spare because the orcs got me busy up north...
  7. Re: Viking texts suggesting spear was superior to sword in shield wall/battle

    That range advantage is what?
    Half a meter?
So you are basically claiming that during that single step it takes for a line of swordsmen or axemen to get into a closer position in which they have...
  8. Re: Viking texts suggesting spear was superior to sword in shield wall/battle

That comment was not meant for you, it was just a general overview of the recent flood of "spears rulzzz" threads and videos.
Unlike the vast majority of others who have done this, you actually gave...
  9. Re: Viking texts suggesting spear was superior to sword in shield wall/battle

The speartips were made of even lower quality iron and the probability of having a spear shaft broken in an engagement is also a factor to be considered.

That is entirely and absolutely not...
  10. Re: Viking texts suggesting spear was superior to sword in shield wall/battle

I would disagree, it is far more difficult(requires more room) to properly use a spear in close formation than an axe or sword.

These kind of conclusions are derived from modern reenactments and...

    Re: Advice on Mongols needed

    Simple.

Go to your export_descr_unit file and to achieve realism modify all horse arches to deal a reduced 2-3 missile damage and reduce their range to 70-90.
    Next reduce the ridiculous high...
  12. Sticky: Re: [Preview] First Preview of script events

Well I mentioned units from the former roster so yes, I was talking about the battlefield banners carried by soldiers in units :)
I see from the screens that the strat changes are a sure thing.

    Rep.

Will the conversion to the HRE also affect the banners of those units that remain from the former roster?

Re: English Longbows w/ No Penetration?

That "obsolete" armor was still pretty hard to penetrate, as well was the padding underneath.
A combination of both still meant that there was little chance of lethal arrow/bolt penetration.

  16. Re: Command and Control/Generalship of a European medieval army

  23. Re: Tactical options for Europeans facing a Mongolian army.

    Basically this.

If the Mongols actually encountered a professional feudal force of equal size they would have extreme problems with dealing with it.
