Charges are a lot more finicky in EB2 - I think it's mostly a M2TW thing. They've gotten a lot better since the initial EB2 release, but "false charges"...
Certainly, it'll be a learning process though!
Unfortunately M2TW scripting is not as robust as modders would like. I'm pretty sure the first option is impossible, or at least not feasible.
...man, an open-source TW-style engine with much more...
It's quite playable right now, and releases come so often that if you wait for "the next release" you'll be waiting forever...
No; higher level schools still have all of the benefits of lower levels, they just add new benefits. Sorry, that was worded a bit confusingly! I meant to say that family members without Erudite do...
Thanks for the info! I'll try to track down the further effects of those beneficial traits and add that to the spreadsheet.
Schools in EB2 are quite opaque. We know from the description that family members learn stuff at schools; we can assume that a bigger school is better than a smaller school. But it's not entirely...
I'm compiling a list/tutorial for the school buildings and stumbled upon a counterintuitive condition for traits: in export_descr_character_traits, Trigger ludus_magnus (line 54842), advancement in...
and on top of that M2TW allows you to make the same unit look different for different factions, so we do get each of the different elite phalanxes of the Diadochoi in literally everything but name
They're currently 3 pieces.
They can fire flaming ammunition, which I'm pretty sure imposes a morale penalty on the target (right?). Their ammunition store is enough that they can constantly fire...
I tried as you suggested, Sar1n - had a battle in hilly country, so put them above my phalanx. Using flaming ammunition this time, they were quite effective, especially shooting at enemy troops in...
I assume there's nothing that can be done about how naval units retreat when defeated. Just had a navy with full movement defeated by pirates off the west coast of Greece, near Thermon; it retreated...
The description says it's an anti-personnel weapon (particularly good for shooting troops on battlements), and it doesn't look like enough to even damage a stout wooden gate - it fires a bolt about...
Colonists seem to work perfectly fine in my current campaign (Ptolemaioi, 2.05c).
I just got the opportunity to use the Oxybeles ("ballista"-type siege engine) for the first time in a large field battle, my (Ptolemaioi) full stack vs. Makedon full stack and then some.
I placed...
I sketched out how bodyguard units might be distributed given a limited number of slots, and in the 9 or fewer scenario you end up really generic - i.e. "Celtic retainers" the same from Celtiberia to...
Are you sure your units weren't in skirmish mode? I've found that player-controlled units can behave unpredictably when in skirmish mode and given a melee attack order, or a move order with an enemy...
I said no, for the same reason.
Especially if client rulers aren't intended to lead armies except perhaps to patrol their own province, I don't see the point in wasting a bunch of unit slots on...
EB2 crashes for me very often. In a typical 3-4 hour session I get one or two crashes. Most of the time with that window, but sometimes the program just freezes - I've actually only noticed freezes...
@mugen234: Notice that I'm the Ptolemaioi, not Rome!
Like I said, the rebel stacks aren't the problem per se, the problem is that AI Rome sees them and wants to fight them as their top priority...
So this is the second game in a row where I've noticed that the Eleutheroi in northern Italy are... quite active, to say the least. Those are all >1/2 stack, with two near full stacks, as well as...
Retukenoi (Celtiberian Spearmen) get stuck in the reloading state in combat when controlled by the AI, not moving, never going to fighting animation and state, never throwing their weapon.
I played 30 turns or so of Epeiros and found their starting Varu (Asian elephant) unit quite powerful in the way I used them. I kept them in reserve until the battle was joined, and then at the...
A small suggestion: either add land bridges from the mainland to Corfu/Kerkyra, or move the Epirote fort to the mainland, so Epirus can actually use it without being reliant on their fleet.
As long as we're talking about sieges, I've noticed a few issues:
1. The engine seems to prefer assigning siege engines to inappropriate troops by default, even when more suited ones are...
Previously mentioned Ptolemy campaign (2.04j), turn 52:
http://i.imgur.com/F8DS8QL.png
In contrast to inforc's experience, I'm playing Ptolemaioi in 2.04j (H/M as recommended) and it feels like Arche Seleukeia is actually rather weak. From turns 1 to 40, the AS only mustered one large...
I assume "eremos" is like terra incognita in Greek.
I noted this in the 2.04j sticky thread, but there's two different Katpatuka Asabara units available for recruitment (in the Pontic capital, at least) - different unit cards, nearly the same stats,...
I noticed that Pontos (and presumably the surrounding factions - Hayasdan, Arche Seleukeia, Ptolemaioi) have a lot more and more aggressive Eleutheroi stacks to deal with in this version, compared to...
You should ask for help, Quintus. You're getting burned out. It's not good for anyone when you're so frustrated that you lash out at people - not good for us, not good for you, not good for the team,...
I think he/she meant temporarily removing the traits "Spy Guild Master" and "Ambassador" to see if it would improve gameplay, not removing agents altogether :)
I did try that.
Unfortunately, in the midst of steps 2/3/4, Massylia attacked mother Carthage with a full stack - despite an alliance, outstanding relations, and ongoing tribute (~500 mnai/turn)...
I've started three Carthage campaigns now, and I'm having trouble dealing with the Massylians. (All on H/H difficulty.)
In each I have endeavored to make good relations with Massylia. In two I...
FWIW, my M2TW is installed in C:/Program Files (x86)/ and does not encounter any "inexplicable errors".
I suspect that "inexplicable errors" may be a result of Windows UAC security weirdness:
*...
For these incremental updates, is it okay to skip versions - i.e. install EBII v2.03f over EBII v2.03d, skipping installation of EBII v2.03e? Or do you have to install each one?
A modern open-source Total War-style engine would be great... something much more moddable (infinitely moddable if you're willing to change the source code), more efficient (M2TW was released in...
The AI appears to have issues with using a reinforcement army in battle in 2.03c.
The situation: I'm Pontos, at war with Hayasdan. Have smashed multiple Hai full stacks, thanks to the excellent...
The big Roman accomplishments were more in the areas of supply, logistics and the physical and civil infrastructure to keep a large professional army in the field, not in the professional army per se.
FWIW I'd appreciate a little more gameplay description text for the temples (and some other buildings), especially when it comes to special benefits of future tiers and effects on FM traits and...
