AOR troops are great early game, but lacking endgame. I agree that there should be a way to upgrade them or some elite AOR units.
I would avoid war with carthage and selucids at all cost. Mop up the weak africans and you should have a very wealthy base. The problem is your roster isn't as elite as some, so you need to be...
Interesting! We reach very similar conclusions and results but my standard template is quite different.
My template is:
Main:
Level 4 city
fish (if available)
gladiator/2x blue...
Have you read history? People were crazy back then - lots of people started fights they couldn't hope to win.
Nice strats. Honestly I just bring 10-12 balaric slingers + 4 arty and autosim.
I started to impose some rules to make it more fun. First, no circling around and attacking the AI in the back with missile or cav. This is because its too easy to pull off and too powerful vs the...
I think I go with farming because I use grain pit spam.
I'll third Galatians, great faction to play although its a very hard start. I also like the Belgae. Thracians are my second pick - I find pikes hideously dull to play.
Armenia or selucids technically have the strongest infantry but due to population issues you can't recruit them. I think the gauls or thracians have the second best spammable units.
> What does the campaign run like?
Seems to run smoothly and fast. OFC I'm on a much faster PC now so that may bias my answer.
> How are you doing and what's your strategy?
I don't like the...
Yes, but you have to manually download it and put the files in the right folder.
Why do you say that? I'm excited with the improvements as a game the franchise is making. For example the small missions and such to keep yourself busy while city building up and such. For example...
Everything is great, thanks for asking. I have been playing TW:3K mostly now plus a little bit of WH2. I was very hesitant to try WH2 because I don't like fantasy much but the game mechanics are a...
Spartan Youths are probably the best fit thematically. Perhaps remove perioki to make it less spartan dominated. So your choices are basically: spartan elite hoplites, athenian/rhodian regular...
Great so far. My only tiny beefs are the lack of a 4 speed melee, like spartan youths or marines or something. Pelts just aren't the same. Also on hard difficulty at least I had a serious struggle...
Looks great, I hope to give this a good run this week!
I've done this exact thing many times and it adds a fun new flavor. Go for it!
Looks great.
Looks great to me.
You are right that javcav functions as light cav after their javs are spent, but at least for me that gives them completely different roles. Light cav go after unprotected missile units and nothing...
1. I don't like hippies, I think its too easy to use. I would rather see a mix of lancers, javcav, and light cav. The only general use cav should be the expensive companion types. So I would drop...
1. Good choices.
2. I assume you still get cretan archers from AOR? If not I think archers should be back.
3. For hoplites, I think the best mix is:
Spartan (best stats, but noble pop 1)...
1.) Anything you have in mind?
Hmm, maybe thracian or celtic light horse "mercenaries?" Or even persian?
3.) Sparta only has hoplites though? If you and Epanastatis think this, I'll look into...
Excellent suggestions. Other tweaks:
1. Hippieskistontai (the cheap skirmisher cav) seem out of place. I would remove them and replace with either a mercenary light horse or nothing.
2. ...
Looks great. I'm excited to play.
I agree on keltaoki, disagree on romans.
I'd like to see:
- trash levy eastern infantry just for fodder
- agranian axemen
- thracian pelts/light infantry
- maybe elite thracian romphanorane?...
> However, now a problem is that the Thorax Hoplite and Thorax Spears are near identical. Why would you use Spears when Thorax Hoplites have the same stats, but with the phalanx ability?
Hoplites...
I think the stamina and morale are too steep. The whole emphasis of classical greek thinking was stamina/courage/morale over skill or even equipment. Another idea might be taking the spartan thorax...

Well, I've felt athenian marines have always been underpowered. They should be on par with any elite sword unit in the game, imo. I'd like to see them fill the role of elite endgame units, possibly...
Perhaps mercenary italian swords? Macedonian white shields are another possiblity, or selucid equivalents.
Nice improvements. Spartan Heros are fine for hoplites, no need for AOR ones imo. Unless you want to edit their name to Plataean Hoplites or something for flavor. I would suggest a cap on regular...
Nicely done. Are you planning on having objectives/house rules to play by as well?
Yes, just to promote the illusion of a willing coalition of greeks. Athens/Macedon contribute most of the elite units, but basic hoplites/slingers/etc from all over.
Perhaps add in some random city hoplites like corinthian hoplites, etc?
Its been a while since I played pergamon so maybe so. I actually use a lot of units in that "cheap flank support" role including ekopoi?, theuros, even levy hoplites. Anything cheap, decently...
I like those choices, but I think you need swords as well. White shields from selucid/mace maybe? Or some athenian variant?
I like those kind of setups, but the problem is you end up with so many little groups its harder to micro. That's why I rarely run units that aren't at least in pairs.
P.S. My 'historical'...
I was asked to discuss some greek tactics and thought it might generate some good discussion.
I run three basic strategies with a few variants.
Alexandrian: gaugamela
~8x pike
