Re: Want to play? Quizz...
It is indeed. My Queen :-D
I find the thought that my ruler is a huge Tolkien fan quite pleasing. And so must he have. I believe it would have gladdened him immensely to recieve fan-mail from the crown princess of one of the oldest royal houses in the world. One whose origins are well known back in the time of his liking and at that time intimately tied to his Anglo-Saxons. And to find that she understood his way of thinking, etc.
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
Ugh royal families. :thumbsdow
Very good and hard question though! :thumbsup2
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
Okay, here is a new question. Should be easy enough for anyone who has read the books.
Throughout The Lord of the Rings there are many instances of foreshadowing and prophetic statements/visions. In the House of Tom Bombadill the hobbits have dreams each night. Who is the one that has prophetic dreams and what are the dreams about/foretell?
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
Frodo dreams of the Black riders and a stranger.
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
Frodo dreams yes, but it is of Gandalf on top of Orthanc (remember he cries "I saw you!" when Gandalf relates the story), of him being borne away, and then of hooves- Black Riders.
The night after he dreams of... probably arriving in Valinor.
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
Macilrille got the two dreams I was looking for. :) Gandalfs imprisonment and escape from Orthanc and Frodo's journey into the west.
"like a pale light behind a grey rain-curtain, and growing stronger to turn the veil all to glass and silver, until at last it was rolled back, and a far green country opened before him under a swift sunrise"
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
IIRC the actual passage are described in the same words.
This question is easier and probably my last for a while. No need to boost my already large ego more and annoy the rest of you even more ;-)
The Seven Clans of Dwarves was in contact and held congregations at a very special spot until they lost it.
Where was this spot?
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
I'm quite certain it'd be Khazad-Dum
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
panson24 is right, the story of it is told in HoME 12, "The Peoples of Middle-Earth, p. 295ff "Of Dwarves and Men". Gundabad was the birthplace of Durin and the Longbeards and thus sacred to all Dwarves and its loss was not viewed with happiness by the Dwarves.
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
I was not sure, I was between Khazad-Dum or Gundaband :P
well, the only question that comes to my mind is about something I read yesterday, it's quite easy I think...
1- Bilbo and Frodo had their birthdays on the same date, which date was that?
2- How old were they at Bilbo's party?
3- How old were they when Frodo left the Shire?
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
1. Their birthday was on September 22.
2. Bilbo was 111 (eleventyone), and Frodo was 33, together they were 144.
3. Frodo left 17 years later, so he would have been 49 or 50 ( I cant find the precise he left right now), and Bilbo would have been 127 or 128 years old.
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
Frodo left after his 50th Birthday, so that he was at the same age as Bilbe when he went on hias journey.
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
DennisRoos got it right, semptember 22, nice detail with eleventyone. and they were 50 and 128 when Frodo left
So it's Dennis' turn
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
When Gandalf and Pippin ride to Minas Tirith they talk about the palantiri. Where were the palantiri originally and where are they all now (TA 2980)?
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
Ezellohar is the hill outside Valmar where the two great trees, Telperion and Laurelin, stood.
The meaning of the word, I think it was green hill or green mound.
And the translation to Quenyan it's Corollairė which means summer mound.
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
Yes it was, i think the most difficult part about this thread is coming up with a question that's hard:P
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
haha yeah that's the challenge in this quiz
Who was the head of the 2nd White Council? name in Sindarin and the meaning of his/her name.
Who disagree in naming him/her head of the council?
Which was the main purpose of the meeting?
Re: Want to play? Quizz...
Curunir... I believe it was something around "man of skill".
Galadriel
Well the main purpose was to stop the threat of Dol Guldur, but Saruman (Curunir) also wanted to dissuade the other members of the council from searching for the ring.
