It is the horse animation intended for lancers and skirmishers. It means that in melee they move backwards (not to be confused with skirmish mode though). The reason for this is that these 2 mounted types are not suited to melee, lancers also get -1 melee attack (but gain +4 charge though). The remaining mounted types are chargers (idle animation) and brawlers (shuffle_forward)

It is also used by foot units in melee, and is responsible for the rear ranks spreading backwards. Most units now substitute the shuffle_forward animation, or hold in place.
yes it's great but it crashes if the mod has over 50 entries in descr_mount. So you have to temporary delete some when using it in large mods like SS. And descr_mount specifies the name of the model entry in battle_models.modelsdb and that file then specifies the animations used :)
