Total War: WARHAMMER officially confirmed!
POST EDIT 15/01/2015
The last few pages of this thread turned into people bashing each other for their opinions and a moderator had to come in and clean it up.
I would like to echo their sentiment here so there is no doubt:

*This thread was created to discuss the upcoming total war game and Warhammer - until a dedicated forum is created anyway. Things like what CA are going to do next with announcements, what new features are expected to be introduced, what factions and units there will be and what time period of the lore it is set in etc. etc. NOT to discuss the perceived 'childness' of other members hobbies. If you're not into Warhammer, you are entitled to that opinion and can discuss here (and by all means vote in the poll) but don't insult others.
*Criticise and debate the post, not the poster
*This is a game CA is making. Deal with it. They dont make games to please just you, and other members may disagree with you and want it. You don't have the moral high ground of speaking for everyone.
*Please be civil. This is a good thread where we can discuss the game and Warhammer. It would be nice to keep it open.

Hi everyone :D
I started a thread yesterday about a first impressions of 'The Art of Total War' book (it was shipped early to me - officially releases 23 Jan)
Reading it in more detail today, Mike Simpson is discussing the history and the future of Creative Assembly when he mentions "and taking the series to a fantasy setting with Total War: WARHAMMER"
Below I shall attach screenshots of the book, the article and the page its from as proof:

Im guessing it was going to be revealed this week before the book officially launched.
Personally, I am quite excited for this. I'm not a huge fan of the universe, but I enjoyed my time with the Dawn of War series and I welcome a new setting for TW and the option to play in a fantasy setting. Feel free to discuss your opinions below
Check out the rest of my first impressions thread if you're interested:

Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
wow thats very nice news indeed as a massive warhammer fan here - unless its in warscape
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
I wonder what it will be? after the End times?
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
I only hope that Warhammer won't be a game for bloody mobile gadgets...
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
That would be a good case of missing the point completely, we can be assured that it will be a total war game, as it would be stupid to pay CA to make a mobile game.
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
not my cup of tea but it's something different and i can always give it a try
at least they wont get the sandals wrong !
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
Where are all the people saying it wouldn't happen? Haha, love seeing conservative users being proven wrong :D

They can and they will, there are a big differences between the first era Dark elves Vs. second era dark elves....
But we know they will look like the first Era Dark elves -.-'
the first era:
second era:
I hope it helps to understand that there are a huge difference between those two.
I really HATE those "road sigh" helmets!
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
I find this change of pace to be very.... intriguing. I really hope people have an open mind about this.
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
I've never been too interested in Warhammer universe but I am excited to see Total War finally going to a fantasy setting, finally something new
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
So they named it Total War after all.
Boy, purists are going to raaaaaaaaaaaaaaage.
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
I wonder if they will use their main team for this, or still create a new Total War Historical Game at the same time. I also wonder if this will run on a new engine or the warscape wich I suspect if its released soon.
I think/Hope that Ca will use a mixed team from their Console and Total war team for this and meanwhile the rest Total War team will create a new engine. A new engine should be in their interest now becuase of the technological progress that has been made. To those who know, would this play like an rpg in any way?
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
Hopefully it will play as a total war game, or it would be a wasted effort.
I really like CA effort to make something new, rather then print out the same era games.
I hope the campaign will be centred around the Empire.
Factions:
The Empire (duh)
Brets
Wood elves
Dwarfs
Undead
Chaos
Orcs
Or maybe they will come up with something better, Don'tt think they could make the whole world?
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
With Cathay and Nippon empire lol.
Seriously i really hope there will be bretonnians.

I sure as hell hope not. I'm guessing that it will be a PC entry into the series. Its really the only option - Warhammer fans likely wont be too happy about a mobile game when they could have a full epic Total War game. At the same time, it will give CA an opportunity to expand the Total War brand to players playing for the first time due to the new licence.
And yeah, as said in the thread before, I hope too people are open minded. We had to branch into a new direction sometime, otherwise we would be constantly revisiting existing games with a few focused titles – though im not saying this is bad either, I want Med 3 and Empire 2 – but their time will come

New engine is pure speculation at this point, but I agree a new one would be good. I dont think we will just get a new engine though, but rather see improvements to the existing one. See quote from book below about the game engine:
"[Empire] was very much a revolution title, but it was probably the last one... it made the entire engine modular, so now, we can revolutionise individual components rather than do the whole lot at once. It allows us the spread our revolutions over multiple cycles, and get rid of the three or four year elapse between titles." (Mike Simpson)
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
Yes! Yes! Yes! For the Lady!
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
You sir just made my day. I just hope the rumors I'm hearing about the conclusions of the end of days campaign aren't true (reduction of the factions to 6 and all that crap) and that this game won't be based on that mangled version of the setting, because it'd ruin warhammer for me.
Only 6 factions would also be terribad for a Total War game...
Re: Total War: WARHAMMER officially revealed!
Warhammer has not been of my personal "must play" or "gotta have" list of things to get excited about, whomever the publisher is.
