PFFT lack of MOS guarantee.. Bro, officers EARN their MOS. When you graduate from OCS and get your commission, you go to The Basic School, a six month course in Quantico that actual trains you to be a field-grade officer. While you're there you get ranked in a group of 300. For MOS, you choose your top five choices out of about 32 selections. If you are in the top third bracket out of the 300 group, you will almost always get a top choice. This obviously has some limitations, that being the limited number of slots available. But if you have your head on straight, you're going to get to do what you wanna do. That's what I've been told, at least... Reality bites sometimes.

The politics and the hands-off nature of much of the job blows compared to enlisted, though. Oh, and I thought that going the officer route would mean taking less ... flows downhill, right? Nah. Your basic 1st Lt. and even Captain working as a Platoon Leader is gonna take TONS of it, while having to work in the opposite direction to make sure the NCOs take him/her seriously.

Then again, you get paid a -ton more and you get the dignity, respect, and awesome head-chopping sword that comes with being a small percentage of a small percentage. Let's be honest here, a Marine officer is an exceedingly rare specimen, even if it doesn't mean they automatically know what they're doing.

True, though enlisted infantrymen in the USMC certainly don't have it easy. In fact I enlisted planning to go the officer route after boot camp and SOI but after experiencing it and seeing a bit into the things officers deal with (MOS changes and politics as I said earlier) made me decide to just remain enlisted. Apparently motiv-8 came to a similar conclusion. It's all personal preference really but if you do decide to pursue the officer route make sure you are in extremely competitive physical fitness and think about every single action you take while in training. With officers everything from your MOS on is determined by your competiveness with other candidates.

Yeah, but the whole officer route is hard. Not to mention the politics and lack of MOS guarentee that comes with being a USMC officer.

Hmmm, I may be mixing it up with another program he was talking about (there were about a dozen or so). I'd contact a local recruiting office to ask which program he was referring to but I could have sworn it was NROTC. Either way, six weeks is shorter than most spend IIRC.

Especially since, if you complete NROTC, you have to go to OCS anyway

I noticed you posted this, according to the OSO that just visited my unit you don't have to go to OCS, only TBS if you are in NROTC.

Fine, then. I will look at you from across the gulf between Heaven and Hell and laugh, then. .... Well, you're just too cuddly and nice for that. Damn you!

Ah, trying to catch me in heresy, eh? You bloody atheists, always using things you don't believe in to bash people. This is so obviously a hate crime that I can't even get the words out. Don't you know that it is illegal to question the religious beliefs of a gay person? I might be a pasty white Caucasian male, but I have a disability! There, so you see how my argument for Monarchy works completely fine *slips a court order under your arm*?

I don't want Monarchy because it's just or well-ruling. Jeez, are you crazy? I want it because it promotes order, discipline, structure, and strictness in society. It also tends to be more religiously oriented (I've certainly never heard of an atheist monarch), and thus acts as a mirror of God on Earth. This prepares people for the structure and order of the Heavenly Kingdom, and forces them to focus on the next world. I may be a Christian fundamentalist monarchist first and a person who likes "good rule" second, but you can't call me dishonest!

You said you don't understand anyone who is a monarchist. Ask away!

I don't know. I'm taking the LSAT next month and applying to some law schools for next fall, although the wait also gives me the opportunity to train some more and apply again for the summer ... maybe even be a JAG. If I bomb the LSAT I'm probably going to enlist come the new year.
