They couldn't get a better picture?
I originally heard about this in the late 90's if I recall correct. I didn't know the name of the site and just now ran across an article discussing the subject. Apparently excavation has been on going for nine years, but supposedly only 20 percent of the site has been studied.
The dam being constructed is supposed to provide irrigation for local farmers, but there seems to be controversy around both the feasibility of this project and the right of the government to push the project forward without allowing the completion of archeological work.

It is a sad sight for Professor Ahmet Yaras who excavated Allianoi for nine years and who says 80 percent of the site has yet to see the daylight.
