Basically, media is controlled by people who are anti-Taliban, so I do not believe what they say on TVs unless they have proper evidence. They will always show Talibans as oppressors and hide their own war crimes (Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, etc). But what I have watched in the documentary on Taliban at NatGeo, it was giving strong hints at the reduction of poverty in Taliban era, which later increased under the so-called democratic government. Wikipedia says Northern Alliance represents all ethnic groups of Afghanistan. My view: This alliance was basically to implement Islam which they liked (rejecting other parts of Islam which they did not). Every religion has to be taken as a whole, and same goes for every set of rules. If people start to accept and reject rules on their wishes, the set of rules is no longer useful and problems will emerge in the society. That's only a difference of opinion. Since I have not been to Afghanistan, and have never met a Taliban or anybody in contact to them, so I can't say why they put this restriction. There are a few really good Islamic TV channels where proper Islamic rules are followed, like Peace TV, so this restriction will probably not be accepted as smoothly. As far as I've watched in the Charlie Rose show, the Taliban leader doesn't make the laws, it's his scholars who do this task and he (Mullah Umar) follows them. So on this TV and radio issue, we can have an opinion but no final judgement since we are not Afghanis and hadn't been to Afghanistan. Btw, have you watched any video of "The Arrivals" series?
i just read the book, My life with the Taliban by some Mullah Zaeef, very powerful and strong. i would definitely recommend it to anyone.
"if you want to rule the whole world does it follow that everyone else welcomes enslavement ? to robbery, slaughter, plunder they give the lying name - freedom they make a wilderness & call it peace" Tacitus Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Yes I've heard about Mullah Zaeef's book. Too bad, I'm not into reading.
Yes we could add few videos like that. I like the episode of the Charlie Rose talkshow in which Taliban envoy was online. It made a lot of things clear, and will for those who want to know the real view of Talibans. Let me post the videos here... Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
